The ratings have to be terrible, but it is probably really cheap for them to produce.

You should tune in and support them. If no one watches they will cancel them and go back to prison shows.

A lot of the prison programming isn't even original. They actually run repeats over and over again.

Those programs get tiresome. As someone else posted, don't even bother tuning into MSNBC on the weekends.

and I still wouldn't watch it week after week. But I think one or two viewings helps people to understand that we have a vast number of people in our country who just aren't living in the same society as the rest of us. I have no idea how to bring them back into a productive life.

I have this sneaking hunch that what really goes on in prison is a little bit different than what you see on those shows. Remember that everybody, guards and staff in particular, act a little different when they know the camera is watching them.

If you want to really know about the situation, watch a documentary from I5 in Britain; American's Brutal Prisons".

one will run on a platform of serious prison reform. It's at the very bottom of most to-do lists. Then ther are the people who think anyone who is in prison deserves whatever happens to them. Even here on DU, the ghouls come out when the criminal involved has hurt a child.

However - I am a middle class person who has many neighbors who are ......low class? poor? uneducated? They just aren't equipped to function in a modern technical society and they get into situations that would be ludicrous if the consequences weren't so great. Some of the stories I've seen on MSNBC seem to be lurid, but some of them capture what happens to people who just can't win for losing.

24/7 election coverage will take precedence over anything non news. After Obama wins and we take back Congress it will go back to prisons and serial killers.
