I subscribe to Netflix, and while it isn't available on their streaming service, it is available to be mailed to you.
Interesting, if nothing else. Good story, good acting (I really don't know what makes "great acting", though I know a great actor when I see one do a great scene) and some excellent cinematography. Some of it was difficult for me to watch quite frankly, because I have such an affection for horses, but this is a very good movie.
If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
Also, if you like Anthony Hopkins, see "The Worlds Fastest Indian". Based on a true story, Hopkins plays a great part and the film was really very well done.
Edit: Yes, this probably belongs in the lounge, as it has no relevance to all the other things DU likes to shout about, but these are two films that did not break box office records, yet are really well done. Spielberg did "War Horse" and Roger Donaldson did "The Worlds Fastest Indian".
Worth a look.

(19,926 posts)I don't see how the movie could compare.
I cried several times at the play. Even though you could easily see that the "horses" were mechanical and controlled by people underneath, they really brought them to life, making their ears move, the breathing, it was really wonderful.
Yes, it was a great story too. Poor horsies, thrown into war like that.

As with many film and Broadway successes, the story originated with a book. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Horse_(novel)
