http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/03/10/2687032/rfk-widow-joins-fla-farmworkers.htmlLAKELAND, Fla. -- Hundreds of marchers, including Robert F. Kennedy's widow, joined with fasting Florida tomato pickers Saturday in asking Publix supermarket chain to help boost their wages.
Carrying signs that read "Publix: Recognize farmworkers' humanity," the marchers walked three miles from a Publix supermarket to the company's headquarters. There they met up with about 60 people, many of them farmworkers, who had gone six days without food in protest.
"It's incredible to see," fasting farmworker Oscar Otzoy said. "We are very happy to have arrived at this day and to show the true face of Publix."
The farmworkers want Publix to pay growers a penny more per pound of tomatoes, which would be passed on to pickers. The Coalition of Immokalee Workers' penny campaign has won support in recent years from companies like Taco Bell, McDonald's and Burger King.

(10,178 posts)1. This is so unlike Ethel. She usually does her thing at $25,000.00 per
plate dinners.
She's old so maybe there are some problems.
Nice thing to do though.

Her name wasn't even mentioned until the 11th paragraph. I know of her reputation for being difficult. But maybe she has earned more than just that, given what she has had to do. And showing up at 83? I remember.

The picture quality is a little rough, but the content is good.

Much appreciated. Bobby Kennedy would have defeated Nixon in 1968, and our world would have been better.

(10,178 posts)5. What on earth does the fact that her name wasn't mentioned
until the 11th paragraph have to do with anything?
"RFK widow" was a rather big clue.

I salute Mrs. Kennedy for trying to bring attention to the plight of the farm workers.
