A Mormon & A Cathloic Walk Into A Bar..,

Here's the joke (and it's on the Repukes): there are a whole shitpot of fundies in the south and the Midwest who would not vote for a Mormon if you put a gun to their head BUT there also is another shitpot of them equally deranged about Catholics!!! ...thus the divide between Rick & Mitt votes now---and they will NOT come together in the general election. I spent the first 45 years of my 66 in the Midwest & I know these lunatics well!!!! All the Koch money in the world will not get a big chunk of these hateful nuts out to vote in Nov.

....that is a vexing problem for the puke establishment; I can almost feel their pain....

....what if slick-willard, the rich wall-street Mormon and the Nazi Popes' sanatorium, were on the same ticket, would that help?

And currently reside and will probably die in the midwest. I'm not sure what part you're from but Catholics make up a huge proportion of the population in the midwest, rural and otherwise.

The town I grew up in was about 500 people and they are all Catholic. This is German immigrant country not Scotch Irish Calvinist country. If you're not a Catholic here you're probably Lutheran and if you don't think a LCMS member will vote for a Catholic for President you're nuts. If there is one thing conservative people in small towns do its vote and they aren't going to stay home because their candidate is Catholic.

South Dakota
North Dakota
Iowa
Nebraska
Minnesota
Kansas
Indiana
And probably others have all had Catholic governors in the last 30 or so years. I know my region and I know my religion. If Santorum wins the nomination conservative Christians of all shapes and sizes will rally behind him in the midwest. Mormonism and the south are foreign to me so for all I know you could be right about that.

I lived in central Illinois, and in my experience, you are correct about Catholics in the midwest. Even small towns of only 20,000 population will often have a Catholic church, and even the Protestants would head there for Oktoberfest.

I lived for many years in west-central Illinois, which played a major role in the Mormon church in the 19th century (the Nauvoo colony, the shooting of Joseph Smith at the Carthage jail, etc.) While I lived there, additional mormons moved to the area when a local state university hired a Mormon for its president, and many Mormon professors and their families moved to the area, as well.

As far as I could see, the Mormons never experienced any discrimination there, and I can't imagine the midwest as a region would be averse to voting for someone just because he/she is Mormon. That said, I do have a couple of relatives from the midwest who actually voted for Romney in the 2008 primaries but after reading up on the history and beliefs of the Mormons, both swear they'll not vote for him this time.

Then again, a lot of his ardent fans may not be aware of it.

...is that Catholicism is accepted but Mormonism is still considered a magic underpants cult.
