http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/11/28/woman-convicted-in-stand-your-ground-case-released-from-jail-to-await-new-trial/A Florida woman awaiting a new trial in a stand your ground shooting case has been released from jail.
Marissa Alexander was released Wednesday night on more than $200,000 bond while she waits to be retried on three charges starting March 31.
She must remain under house arrest and electronic monitoring until then.
The 1st District Court of Appeal ordered the retrial in September after ruling a judge had not properly instructed the jury that convicted Alexander.

AMAZING that Psycho Zimmerman can get use that defense and this poor woman (who I personally think deserved to use the defense got thrown in jail.)
BUT NO I am wrong for believing a study I saw that said those who used STAND YOUR GROUND and win are white while all others try don't get to win.
Seriously I see why my wife has lost faith in the justice system.

And in FL, the conviction rate vs. acquittal rate for SYG is pretty equal among the among the races.

(1,991 posts)The acquittal rate of AA's using the SYG statute vs. a white person using the SYG statute is about equal in FL.
And Zimmerman didn't use the SYG defense, so you got that wrong also.

(3,121 posts)This is your quote: the conviction rate vs. acquittal rate for SYG is pretty equal among the among the races.
It is NOT equal it is unfair!

(3,121 posts)It was brought up in the case.
stand your ground was very much part of the case

(1,991 posts)the defense opted not to us the SYG statute although there was speculation that he was going to go for an SYG hearing before the judge, which never happened.

(111,358 posts)because she's black and because she's a woman, two groups the PTB most want to stay oppressed and under control. That verdict was the most infuriating I've seen in a long time, especially coming right after the appalling Zimmerman verdict. I wondered what lies the jury had been told and what lousy instructions they'd been given.
"Unlawful discharge of a firearm within city limits, menacing" and other misdemeanors should have been it and given the circumstances, I'd be loath to convict her on those.
The jackass DA and the jackass judge should both be removed from office.

(35,359 posts)She was offered a plea bargain that would have had far, far lower penalties.
She or her lawyer decided to go for acquittal, right up to the end. The last in a long line of foolish decisions--from breaking into her former's house, leaving to get her gun, shooting it in a way that couldn't possibly be considered self-defense, shooting it in a way that endangered her kids. All things considered, rejecting the plea deal seems downright trivial.

2) The last time she was out on bail for shooting at him, she went to his house and beat him up.
If she doesn't plea bargain, she will be convicted again because that is what she's guilty of.
"I thought I was fixin' to die" - the 12 year old's testimony to the jury.
I think it's really bad form to defend Alexander "because Zimmerman".
