There are so many stories about bitterly divided families it looks like we are in a state of a civil war these days. Never have I seen so much division and actually bitter hatred. The effects of RW hate radio are so obvious now. I wonder how many potential food fights loom today.
Even to demand social justice and fair wages and health care results in vicious and sustained attacks. People are labeled communists, Marxists and socialists and that line is ok for many Americans. Even the Pope is being attacked for demanding workers be more than castoffs. And GOPPERS applaud these attacks. We have become our own worst enemies.
My experience with the Colorado recall has been so revealing about what we have become. That experience exposed insurmountable fractures that transcends into individual families as well. Now the gun psychos want to demand an election. The resignation has cheated them out of their vote. They are making it clear they will never accept the validity of any election unless ONLY their guy is allowed to be seated. They will recall, cheat, or nullify everyone else no matter how long it takes. The resignation did not give they the vote they now demand. It is like their football team is down and want minutes added to the clock until they are ahead.
What we are seeing is their version of government. What they really want us revolution and NOT democracy. How deranged we are becoming.

(12,778 posts)In the interest of full disclosure, I supported the recall elections. As evidenced by the recall votes, the senators who were recalled cast votes on gun control that obviously were not supported by the majority of their constituents. Billionaire Bloomberg's group outspent the recall groups 3-1, and the voters rejected his interference in Colorado state affairs.
I support recall elections in general. To me, they are valuable tools to hold elected officials accountable to their constituents.

(6,476 posts)this has been true since the 60's. My family is still bitterly divided there's "pinko communist" me .and everyone else. Nothing new in that. I agree with what you say otherwise.

(17,528 posts)I worry about that too. Where are we going/headed with this hatred? Right wing radio needs to be silenced for the good of the country...so does all the hateful propaganda email the ReThugs circulate around the net...it's down right racist and disgusting. I get them from my right wing FOX viewing brothers.

(12,778 posts)or any political radio programs for that matter, but I do disagree with your statement that "Right wing radio needs to be silenced for the good of the country." Censorship rarely works out well. If one side can be silenced, so can the other.
Now, I'm all for people like Rush Limbaugh being exposed as the pig-like creatures that they are. Apologies to actual pigs, of course.
Edited for grammar.
