Van struck by car traveling more than 125 mph; 2 dead
Written by Kristina Smith

FREMONT — “Significant charges” are possible against the speeding driver who authorities say caused a fiery crash that killed two Toledo adults Thursday on the Ohio Turnpike, a state patrol spokeswoman said today.

The two Toledo adults who died in a burning van involved in the crash have been identified, and their identities will be released after their families are notified, Ralston said.

The driver who caused the crash, Andrew D. Gans, 24, of Kent, is in fair condition at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

Gans was driving at speeds of 125 to 150 miles per hour, and two troopers attempted to stop him, according to the patrol. The Ohio Turnpike speed limit is 70 mph.

Few today can go 125 mph, let alone get near 150.

The fastest I ever went in a car was 115 mph and I was not driving. It scared the shit out of me. The fastest I have driven was 95 on an empty Interstate in rural Illinois, following an semi-trailer. He got pulled over and I slipped by without the cop seeing me speeding (or he didn't care).

I was driving a Honda CRX, one hot little automobile. And no, I am not stupid; I was not drafting him.
