I have a situation with which I must confront within the next few days. I will post about that later. Some have told me they get prescriptions from Canadian pharmacies, others have told me that it is illegal to do so.
Which is it?
Thanks for any input.

(90,061 posts)The legalities of it seem murky, but I think that is intentional. And a lot depends on what you need.

(32,023 posts)Under the Prescription Drug Marketing Act of 1987, it is illegal for anyone other than the original manufacturer to bring prescription drugs into the country. However the U.S. is ignoring that law. You can 1) take a three month supply into the U.S. or 2) order over the internet. The U.S. fortunately has decided to put their enforcement efforts elsewhere. Buy away.

(7,473 posts)According to my interpretation, it is not illegal to buy from another country but the government suggests is may not be safe. Some of the drugs may not be the same as those made in the US.
How do we find a Canadian pharmacy that offers the same drugs as we do. Any ideas?
I signed up for drug coverage a few weeks ago and find the cost and the penalty too expensive for me. I live on SS alone and need to find an alternative because I cannot afford the cost.
I take no drugs now.
I thank anyone who may be able to give any information.

When my SIL was taking fertility drugs we just drove her down to Nogales, walked over the border and looked for a farmacia. There were dozens.

They only needed to have their scrips verified by a Canadian physician first, then they were allowed to haul back three months worth of their discounted drugs.
I don't know if that is still going on or not, but here is a link to a site which may give you a solid answer to your question:

(522 posts)Recently the bank refused to accept the charge to my debit card. I went in to see what I could do. When I said it was for medicine, the bank officer said "Everyone does that". She got it straightened out for me and my meds came in another week. I have had no adverse effects from the drugs and they work as they should. They usually come from India, but I order them through a Canadian pharmacy.
