http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/28/macys-black-friday_n_4358045.html?ir=BusinessIt's quiet inside Macy's gargantuan flagship store in Manhattan's Herald Square, a half hour before the doors are set to open for the much-hyped annual shopping frenzy known as Black Friday.
Of course, it's not actually Friday. It's Thursday night. It's still Thanksgiving.

but not in actual stores.
Thank god for online alternatives. Everything is sent to the right person, no fuss, no muss.
No getting dressed up, no driving, no traffic, saves on gas, takes just a few minutes.
Am I missing something about the great American consumer psyche????

(15,384 posts)When I had a lot of people to buy for. Now we just do the kids in the family, and I can stomach going out once to get toys. I even did Black Friday once, and it was actually a somewhat pleasant experience. I finally decided I wanted a flat screen tv because I was tired of hauling around an LCD one whenever I moved. So I was in a town last Thanksgiving just barely big enough to have a Walmart (I know... shame on me). They had several deals going on at once, and you had to get a ticket and stay in line for that item. I always carry a deck of cards with me so I did some magic tricks for people in line, and then we got some buckets from a nearby aisle, sat down, and played cards until it was time for our deal.
