The Media Is Forced to Admit That The Obamacare Website is Fixed
By: Jason Easley
Saturday, November, 30th, 2013, 5:08 pm

Little by little the media is finally realizing what many of us have known for weeks, the ACA website is fixed and people are signing up.

The New York Times is reporting that the ACA website is much improved,

As the Obama administration’s weekend deadline for a smoothly functioning online marketplace for health insurance arrives, more than a month of frantic repair work is paying off with fewer crashes and error messages and speedier loading of pages, according to government officials, groups that help people enroll and experts involved in the project.

Although the administration has postponed a December marketing campaign, fearful that the site would collapse under a surge in traffic, five weeks of repair work have clearly made the exchange better. From last Sunday to Tuesday, nearly 20,000 users managed to enroll in insurance plans, the most for a three-day period, according to people familiar with the project. By comparison, fewer than 27,000 users picked an insurance plan on the federal site in the entire month of October.

And pages that once took an average of eight seconds to load now show up in a fraction of a second. The rate at which a user sees an error message has also dropped from about 6 percent to 0.75 percent.

snip//

As the vastly improved enrollment numbers come in, the media will have no choice but to admit that the ACA is working. Once they admit that people do want access to affordable health insurance, they will never talk about it again.

There is an onslaught of mainstream media hand wringing coming, but the truth is that people are getting and liking their Obamacare. The Republican Party and our disgraceful mainstream press were both wrong.

The ACA could be the crowning gem of Barack Obama’s presidential legacy.

... and most old ones, too, HealthCare.gov will continue to be tuned, improved, protected. Anyone involved in such improvement will be subject to House committee interrogation for trying to cover up the "fact" that it was not ready on 12/1.

Republicans will stay on this like a dog on a bone. It's another Benghazi to be brought up again and again through 2014 and 2016 election cycles.

So even if it's fixed, it ain't fixed. Not in Repub eyes.

I'm just wondering if the numbers in this article include the expansion figures. And yes i recognize more would be helped/enrolled if the Supremes hadn't given States the opt out.

Honestly i don't really have any "expectations" about this law. I think it will help us get closer to Honest Healthcare in this country, at least i hope it will.

any chance you might have a link? I live in MA and have been relatively happy with the system here. I was not here when they implemented "Romneycare", but as i understand it also suffered from a rocky start and only after some adjustments did it become generally accepted. I did follow the OP link to the original article and it stated they estimate the number to have signed up by Feb? 2014 to be over 1 million, but they were hoping to have as much as 7 mil signed on by then. So that at least is far better than the "current rate". Anyway, keeping my fingers crossed that the ACA doesn't see any more "setbacks". Cheers.

The expense hype. ACA will be more expensive for some people (at first)....but that is compared to the junk policy premiums prior to ACA. Many people just don't understand that they had crap, so insurance companies could be generous with cheap premiums. The right wing media and GOP are going to exploit these increases as much as possible. They are already claiming people can't afford the new plans (especially those who don't qualify for subsidies). But, if insurance companies have out priced their consumer market with the new ACA plans, they will be adjusting their prices. There is going to be a lot of competition come 2014.

Sun Dec 1, 2013, 02:51 PM

By BRETT NORMAN and JENNIFER HABERKORN
12/1/13

The Obama administration said Sunday that it achieved its goal of making HealthCare.gov work for the “vast majority” of users after the disastrous start of enrollment in the president’s signature health law.

The Obamacare website will be able to support more than 800,000 consumers per day, the administration said. And the site is now online more than 90 percent of the time, not including scheduled downtime for maintenance.

These are huge improvements for a site that was up an average of 43 percent of the time in October, crashing frequently, spewing error messages, thwarting millions of people who tried to visit it.

“The bottom line: HealthCare.gov on Dec. 1st is night and day from where it was on Oct. 1st,” Jeff Zients, the management expert steering the repair mission, told reporters Sunday morning.

"The ACA could be the crowning gem of Barack Obama’s presidential legacy."

It's a piece of crap patched together legislation that gave far too much to the GOP in exchange for votes that never materialized. It was way over-compromised and is based on a system created by the Heritage Foundation, which puts ideology before intelligence.

Still, it is a decent piece of legislative work and is the first step towards a single payer solution.

The next step is to demonstrate how utterly useless the insurance companies are in provide health care when there's a perfectly acceptable alternative that's cheaper and provides better service for the amount of money spent: either the Medicare program or an extension of the VA program to all citizens.

Time marches on and the health insurance industry will be the 21st century's horse and buggy industry.
