Can someone please explain Yearly Deductible and out of pocket expense?

My wife is still not verify on the Obamacare website BUT she is able for the first time see the plans that would be offered in our area and about the price we will be paying.

Guess what my wife isn't all that smart as some of you have been saying. She doesn't fully understand out of pocket yearly maximum expense and Yearly deductible .

She has only had insurance 3 times before during our married life. Two of the plans where a waist of money we paid into them.

She wants to get the best coverage at the lease cost considering I am paying $410 a month for just insurance for me.

she is trying to understand everything possible.

Also in western PA UPMC is having a fight with Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield and THE ONLY HOSPITAL is UPMC owned hospital. Now with all this issue verifying my wife identity she doesn't want to have to go through this again next year because a Highmark plan will not be taken in 2015.

So any help you can give would be helpful.

Please keep in mind due to the fungal pneumonia my wife had about 3 years ago her lungs are weak and she seems to have asthma now. NOT extreme BUT enough that she needs to use an inhaler or use a breathing treatment.

So we have to think about that medicine she may need once or twice a year.

Yearly deductible is the amount of money you must pay BEFORE your coverage kicks in. In the ACA, deductibles won't count for most preventative care, immunizations, health tests like mammograms/colonoscopies and you'll get those services without having to satisfy any deductible or make any copay (yay!).

Once you start using health services beyond the deductible, you will pay copays for regular doctors visits AND you will be subject to coinsurance payments. Coinsurance is the amount of a bill you also have to pay. If you have 70/30 coinsurance. You will have to pay 30 percent of a charge for a service or hospital bill.

THEN

Once you've started paying coinsurance for stuff and have satisfied your deductible, there will be a point at which your insurance picks up ALL of the rest of your medical bills. That is what is called the yearly maximum out of pocket. Be careful though, because some insurance policies limit the doctors/hospitals/labs/imaging centers you can use. Those are called "in network". The coinsurance usually applies to "in network" charges. You can go to the wrong doctor/hospital/lab/imaging center and wind up paying a much bigger coinsurance for those. You must check the network to see if your doctors/hospitals/labs/imaging centers are "in network" before you actually select a plan. Imagine having the hospital across the street inaccessible to you as it isn't in your network.

Excluded from out-of-pocket expense cap

Some plans exclude deductibles, copays and coinsurance from the out-of-pocket maximum. That means, even in-network, you may pay much more out-of-pocket than the plan’s literature indicates.

why are you not explaining this to your wife?

And if you are unable to explain it to her, why are you saying she's not that smart?
