I was juror 6.
At Mon Dec 2, 2013, 02:17 AM an alert was sent on the following post:
Indeed. I started this OP in response to this pathetic and wildly popular OP:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=4118887
REASON FOR ALERT:
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS:
Clear and obvious call out of another OP and DUer. Could have easily made their point without calling out another poster
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Mon Dec 2, 2013, 02:24 AM, and the Jury voted 2-4 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: I'm tired of this silly backstabbing kind of behavior on this forum.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT and said: "disruptive"
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: It's not a call out. It's a reference to the context that prompted LA's OP. This alert is, IMO, in bad faith.
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

It was obvious something was very off about that Facebook image. Sure enough, the Time-Warp Wife *sinned* by having an extra-marital affair, then started a Jesus-y blog.
Pass.

(49,212 posts)Please don't repost anti-woman propaganda, even if somebody else on the internet did so first.
Actually, please don't post anything without taking sixty seconds out of your life to google and check it out. That's how we wind up with a site full of fundamentalist glurge memes and known hoaxes and references to dodgy sources.

(1,260 posts)Every weakend, I regularly ask my wife why she:
A) Wears dangerous, high-heeled shoes?
B) Wears all that crap/make-up on her face?
when she's naturally beautiful. Her answer...basically to impress other women, most of them complete strangers. FOR WHAT?!
Her girl "friends", all married or engaged, have the same answer.
FOR WHAT?

That's a fear of women's bodies and a lack of normal self control that is literally pathological- it's negatively effecting his ability to go about his daily life and routine tasks.

(267 posts)It is a fallacy to judge a piece of advice based on the source rather than on its own merits. It is just as wrong to say, "If it is in the Bible it must be true." as it is to say, "If it is in the Bible it must be false."

(27,310 posts)themselves based on a man's opinion is just wrong wrong wrong.
We need to teach our daughters and sons the difference between flattery and compliments. And that neither matter to their own self worth.
We need to teach our daughters and sons the difference between the value of money and the value of community.
We need to teach our daughters and sons the difference between those who see others as property and those who see others as brothers and sisters.
We need to teach our daughters and sons that lust and love are innate in our species and celebrate both.
We need to teach our daughters and sons that there are human beings that are selfish assholes and run far far away from them.

(28,784 posts)The issue of addressing these things often comes down to modes of communication in ways that effective to advance someone's cause and bring positive attention to the problems these issues cause for many people in society.
Once reality has started - within the confines of history and current attitudes and situations this long, long history for these issues - it's impossible to "start at even" within the parameters of society as it is currently constructed.
If more than one of those issues pertains to a person, this reality compounds problems, often, and sometimes puts allies in positions where they feel at odds.
There are always people within various groups who are able to overcome tremendous constraints and achieve goals - but, just as in "elite theory" in politics, as far as a ruling class versus everyone else goes - those few provide the release of pressure about issues in society without actually addressing them. Occasionally there's a MLK or Ghandi or Friedan who helps promote broad changes and provide leadership that others coalesce around - but they're rare.
It's positive that some are able to rise above their societies to create their own versions of life. They provide good role models and hope - but they don't provide the infrastructure, often, that would really provide large-scale "social mobility" within our society to create lives with more hope and opportunity for more people and less classism, racism and gender-related issues.
How to effectively approach the issues is key to helping others understand one group or another.
