Israel's Herzog calls for 'brave' steps in peace talks

(I hope this will count as "big news" as opposed to the sort of I/P discussion that gets banished.)

Ramallah (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) - Israeli opposition leader Isaac Herzog said Sunday he would push the government to take "brave" steps in US-brokered peace negotiations, after holding talks with Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas.

The meeting at the West Bank headquarters of the Western-backed Palestinian Authority was the first of its kind since Herzog was elected head of the opposition Labour Party at the end of November.

I looked for recent polls that might give an idea of Herzog's chance of becoming PM, but I didn't see any. I'm glad to see him taking this position publicly.

Some of the comments following the article are, as you might expect, obnoxious.
