costs as they were going to pay for it through MNSNAP but no slots are open for a couple of months and cannot risk it at their age. The local Vets have given us a price break. THe shots and test were for just about cost. The spay and neut is $249, which is less than the cost of regular spay. I am also posting to some Vets that I know in hopes of getting their pictures out to help get them a home.
I have to try to juggle, contacting as many places as possible, with my elderly dad's business (he is in rehab after breaking his spine while recovering from a broken hip), trying to help my cousin (she has to try to move her mother here from HI) as not end up homeless and without any support...(she is basically an orphan) and take care of my pets who have huge financial medical needs. And pay our utilities and house payment. When the s&%(% hit the fan with personal time and issues, these two guys are falling by the wayside and hope that with spay and neut. we can get them homed asap.
Any one could take them on Craig's List to turn them into a research Facility for cash. I am aware of this so I have to interview people should anyone be a possible adoptee.

(23,720 posts)the cost to spay my dog was $65.00. Two hundred plus seems really high for low cost care.

(14,807 posts)then I can move them to a home hopefully. That is our best hope since people are irresponsible with their animals. We will get reported if they multiply on our acre so had no choice but to stop the bleeding while the tribe was small.

(8,554 posts)If I were you, I'd hold off on that appt. and check out the many options offered by low-cost spay and neuter programs.
Even the ASPCA offers good deals to get an animal fixed these days and many rural areas offer regular spay/neuter clinics, usually advertised in local small-town newspapers as a certain day of the month when you could take those kitties in.

(14,807 posts)Funds are depleted also. See that is what is part of the problem since I had been in contact with them over two months ago on this and they offered to help....after all the appointments within an hour's drive were filled up. In fact in the State!

(8,554 posts)According to the prices out here where I live in the Pacific Northwest (where it's normally a bit more expensive) and in the Midwest (where it's considerably cheaper), you should be able to spay two ferals for under $100. I just went in to a monthly clinic in Ohio last month to have a cat neutered and it only cost me $40; I had a female spayed there three years ago and they charged me $50. I don't know about prices for it up in Minnesota, but what you're paying just seems mighty steep to me.
glinda
(14,807 posts)to the cheapest clinics would require driving part of the day going distance as there is the "van" that MNsnap does cheaper spays/nuets, but they will not have any openings even nearby well into Feb.. We were offered help by them through Feline Rescue but cannot get in. Am afraid of waiting that long. There are sadly no cheap clinics here.
I have been at the Veterinarians when people were quoted for Spays. Not cheap. This is a price break. I was able to get all shots, tests, etc.....on price breaks so far. But even one of the visits for shots, etc....was $280 for both. uggggh. $200 for the kennels to keep them in since we had no where to put them. ugggh! And a couple hundred more for worming the first time and the initial shots. If I add food, litter, etc.....I suspect this good deed has cost me $700. $600 on a charge card! I cannot add to this. Am spent and out of ways to pay back the money as is so..... am up against the wall. I still have to find a decent home for them, hopefully together.

(14,807 posts)as we are stressed to the max financially and now my own pets are being denied their minimal treatments in order to walk and not be in pain. What a mess.

Just now noticed the amount was put in at $300 instead of $245. $245 is what will get the job done. That is what the Vet quoted to me.

(65,369 posts)I also help a few friends who need help handling vet expenses for their pets.
I hope more DU pet lovers will contribute. Even $5 or $10 donations can add up fast if enough people kick in.
K&R, as well.

(14,807 posts)Even if by Friday a portion of the amount is cut down, it will be helpful. 5 and 10 dollars make a huge difference and I will hopefully then have a little relief that the debt is not getting higher and I can focus on my furkids for their medical before the Holidays. I hope I can get these two a good home after all of this. Thank you everyone!

it was at $150! Almost there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot tell everyone the burden that is being lifted right now off of me. Thank you!
Had a break through tonight also with the female. She is letting me pick her up and hold her without any effort at all. They are going to be the best pets for someone! Both very affectionate and want to play a lot.

(14,807 posts)that they threw on a $20 "visit fee" for each and also charged about $275 for the spay and Neuter instead of $245. Or $249. One of those amounts was quoted to me. I did not make goal so more went on the charge card today. Will give them credit though for handling them because the female ripped my husband's hand this morning when attempting to catch them. They knew something was up. Otherwise I can easily pick them up when in the bedroom upstairs with them. But not today. They look great. Surgeries went very well. They have not forgiven me yet though.
I hope I can find them a home. I have to. I cannot keep them. Not saying this lightly....I really cannot keep them.
