He overstepped the bounds of decency with that rant -- with Palin et al., I know just how tempting that can be, but if you want to be a respected news source, there are just some things you can't say anywhere near a microphone. Keep the commentary informative and truthful, but when tempted to say things like that, take a deep breath and keep it dry in tone.

My guess is he's "spending more time with his family," and it might even be true.

I really like Martin Bashir, and I hope he returns rested and refreshed.

He said it was possible, on air ... even though everyone knows that it would be impossible because her mouth (and head actually) are already so full of S**T that no more would ever fit.

So he got suspended for like 2 weeks for this rather egregious error.
