And, true to form, the rightwing schmuck is defending Rush by attacking a Catholic group who takes issue with the fat one:
From Bill's website:
BOGUS CATHOLIC ENTITY RIPS RUSH
Bill Donohue responds to a CNN story on Rush Limbaugh and Pope Francis:
After radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh criticized Pope Francis for statements the pope made in his apostolic exhortation, The Joy of the Gospel, Christopher Hale of Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good attacked Limbaugh. CNN prominently carried the story. But the real story is that Catholics in Alliance is a bogus entity.
So to review:
- Sinead O'Connor criticizing the church for actual sex abuse of priests: Horrible, awful she and must be boycotted, says Bill
- Limbaugh trashes Pope, calls him a communist: A-OK with Bill, and if you attack his fellow rightwing loudmouth, then he's going to go after you and call you a fraud
His hackery couldn't be any more blatant - But, of course, CNN and all the other media outlets will still trot Donohue out and present him as the "voice" of Catholics and someone concerned with, as his site laughably claims, "anti-Catholic bias"

(135,425 posts)They need to get kind of crazy and hyperbolic with him, and say stuff like "Why are you following Pope Rush and not the chosen representative of God on earth, here, pal? You're a baaaaaaaaad Catholic!!"
His target audience is people who were using Benedict's rigid edicts as justifications for hatred, so they're pumped and primed to respond to Papal edicts as, pardon the expression, gospel....theirs not to reason why, theirs but to do, or die is ostensibly their motto! Those followers will have some serious cognitive dissonance if they're placed in a position of having to follow either the Pope's dictates, or those of Loudmouth Bill Donohue! Heads might explode...!
A big thumbs up on that.

(14,061 posts)This is one of the reasons why this ex-Catholic is really liking this Pope. He is calling out all the holier-than-thou conservatives in the Church on their sanctimonious bullshit, and they just cannot handle it.
The truth is, with a lot of these people, if Christ came back today they'd put him back on the cross by sundown, and for the very same reasons He was nailed there the first time.
It's sad that the conservatives can turn a blind eye (if not totally excuse and deflect blame) to decades of child abuse, but yet what gets them **truly** outraged is someone who is actually living what Christ and the Gospels taught. I'm no great believer in any kind of theology, but even I am beginning to wonder if there wasn't some kind of higher purpose at work behind this particular man becoming Pope at this particular time in Church history.
Oh, and Bill Donahue is indeed a blowhard hack -- always has been, always will be.
(And I do recommend the Catholic League's monthly discrimination report as truly funny reading.)

(43,182 posts)...we have the leader of the Catholic Church who is at least making an effort to change the scandal ridden image of the church and refocus on issues of poverty, service and social justice.
And on the other hand, you have a non-Catholic millionaire private jet owning drug attic who makes his money denigrating his perceived enemies and preaching that greed is good, and who wouldn't even be able to get married inside a Catholic Church due to his past marriage failures.
I think there's a "Bogus Catholic" here, if that's who you want to get behind in your crusade to defend all things Catholic.
