How can a woman be so cruel against poor people. But it's the south so I'm not surprise. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/12/02/1259655/-Despite-its-governor-s-best-efforts-South-Carolina-is-expanding-nbsp-Medicaid

(20,411 posts)don't you think that is a bit unfair?
never mind . . . starting to get used to these comments here - hardly worth the effort to comment anymore

btw - what is your own state's status with regard to Medicaid expansion? Based on your comment regarding those living in the South, I am confident you are among the leaders in this effort.

(5,754 posts)not just the South. At least governor is state wide, gerrymandering can't affect the vote, right?

(51,311 posts)And the ONLY reason my state of PA has yet to expand Medicaid IS THAT WE HAVE A GODFORSAKEN REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR.

(20,411 posts)how about a map with states that have approved Medicaid expansion - would that not be more appropriate?
Sure - there are states in the South that have not expanded - but also states in the North and Midwest. 25 have approved expansion - exactly 50%
What about Pa, Maine, etc?
And do we need to regionally-insulting comments here? Can't we outgrow that?
btw - I am a from a blue southern state.

on edit - that is just too rich - a person from a state that has not approved expansion of Medicaid criticizing another state for not approving expansion of Medicaid.

(20,411 posts)I am quite confident it is not due to a lack of compassion - as found in the South (according to your OP)

(5,754 posts)Hospitals are corporations, too, my dear. I proposed to Alan Grayson a bill called the Interstate Highway Safety bill requiring a certain number of hospitals taking medicaid patients per mile of interstate, perhaps no location more than 50 miles from a hospital. At least there would be a few rural hospitals then. States may be willing to give up funding for health care for folks near poverty, but they might not be willing to give up subsidies for roads.

(27,247 posts)Of course, the state has a sensible, Democratic governor, Mike Beebe-- the best governor in the whole South, and one of the best in the whole country.

(945 posts)...this should be open and shut wins for DEMS in all states that refuse Medicaid expansion. A campaign with this issue @ it's core, aimed toward its core demographic would produce huge political gains for the DEMS in the south. It seems that the DEMS are having an hard time controlling the narrative of ACA, though.

(36,063 posts)And here it isn't just a question of expanding medicaid coverage...
Walker told the press and people of the state that everything is great here...he implied that his correction to our economic situation balanced the budget...but with no fanfare wrote to the Feds that the state was going into debt...and had to CUT EVEN MORE PEOPLE OFF.

(10,437 posts)in a big way for next 10 months........its all about marketing, we can only depend on the GOP to shoot itself in the foot for so much. A national campaign needs to be waged with concentration in the GOP states that didn't expand Medicare or set up their own ACA exchanges. Make GOP play defense in their backyard
Thats the Art of political war

(14,531 posts)the kick in the ass is?
citizens are going onto the federal site and finding out they already qualify for Medicaid, without the expansion.
The federal government said Tuesday that states that opted to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act saw applications for Medicaid coverage jump by 13.2 in October. In states that did not expand Medicaid, like South Carolina, applications rose by 4.2 percent, on average.
But, in South Carolina, Medicaid applications increased by 20 percent.
