FOX: 'Pope Francis is the Catholic Church’s Obama – God help us'

Last edited Thu Dec 5, 2013, 02:00 PM - Edit history (1)

I LOVE this stuff. The conservative wing of American Catholicism is the entirety of the RW brain trust. (Almost all their non-Mormon presidential candidates... Almost all of the RW bloc on SCOTUS... Most of their mouthpieces who can even pretend to argue a point... hate to say it, but the evangelical wing is not big on book learning)

So Right Wing Pope-bashing has potentially serious deleterious long-range effects for the American conservative movement, IMO. So bring it on. You guys develop all the divisions you want.

Pope Francis is undergoing a popularity surge comparable to the way Barack Obama was greeted by the world in 2008. And just as President Obama has been a disappointment for America, Pope Francis will prove a disaster for the Catholic Church.

My fellow Catholics should be suspicious when bastions of anti-Catholicism in the left-wing media are in love with him.

Much is being made of his ‘compassion’ and ‘humility,’ but kissing babies and hugging the sick is nothing new. Every pope in recent memory has done the same, yet only now are the media paying attention. Benedict XVI and John Paul II refused to kowtow to the liberal agenda, and so such displays of tenderness were under-covered.

Francis is beating a retreat for the Catholic Church, and making sure its controversial doctrines are whispered, not yelled – no wonder the New York Times is in love....

And thus cannot be Pope.

(This notion tickles me, since Vatican City ought to have a birthrate of about zero.)

Is the Pope simply an appointment, or is he chosen through the influences of the God he will speak for?

Pope Frank is talking comfortably more populist than Obama usually does when not in campaign mode, and I'm sure he means it. Obama did come off surprisingly populist in that last speech but...with his other hand he's still all in on the corporate total power grab that is the TPP. Oh and making it known to Elizabeth Warren that he was not happy that she dared to ask some tough questions of his bankster Wall Street friends.

Hillary has been talking more lefty lately, but watch that other hand.

As for the Pope - I applaud him but worry about his well being.

Ever notice how all the bedsheet racists have been crawling out from under their rocks since, oh, I don't know, around Jan. 20, 2009 at noon EST? Well, the same thing is happening with Catholic-hating Know-Nothings because of Francis.

DUers argue against the newest Pope. In fact I've noticed all the usual suspects infecting Pope Francis threads with their RW crap. So if he's pissing off a tea bagger he's doing the right thing.
