I always just run in to give my money at those self pump places and never once thought that my car might be robbed during that brief time.

Now I know and I'm glad I do.

I don't have a purse, and there's never anything in the car of value. If I've been shopping, I lock up at the gas station. However, I pay at the pump, and am standing there the entire time. I pay attention to my surroundings at all times, and I'm taller than my car. So, I can't see this happening to me. However, I'll start locking the doors when pumping gas. No problem.

Women's purses are common targets for thieves, though. Money, credit cards, cell phones. All that stuff in most people's purses. It's a big temptation for the casual thief.

I did move my wallet to my front pocket, though. It was pressing on my sciatic nerve and giving me pain.

I do sometimes carry a briefcase, though, but only when I have a client meeting.

I also hold my wife's purse from time to time, when necessary. One recent occasion was her aunt's funeral. I held her purse, and her mother's purse, too, while they did something. Her cousin's partner came up and pointed out that the purse I was holding didn't match my shoes. I was mortified, as naturally I would be. We had a good laugh, which is always needed at funerals.

It takes some getting used to at first, but somebody else pumping your gas and washing your windshield is nice, especially when the weather sucks.
