The GOP is going to be screaming mad very soon.

(8,377 posts)What was I hearing in the news the other day about how horrible the roll-out has been going?
With the lag in reporting we are probably already at 2 million Medicaid and way over 500K on private insurance.
What the media doesn't seem to get is that the insurance companies have a HUGE incentive to sign people up. It is a Bonanza for them -- getting to jack up prices and have the government pick up the tab. Nobody is going to stop them from grabbing the money.
And I'm getting tired of hearing all this bullshit about "if we don't enroll the 'young invincibles' the whole system falls apart." That is complete bullshit. The insurance companies are charging through the nose for this insurance. They will make plenty of profit without having a lot of the young ones in the pool. And we will still come in ahead of the CBO numbers.
The fact is that most people in their 30s and 40s don't get very sick. If they are in the pool, it just doesn't matter that much if a 29-year-old paying $200/mo for a high-deductible policy is in the pool or not.
If everybody were paying the same flat rate for the insurance, then, yes, you'd definitely the healthiest in the pool. But the insurance companies have rated each age group based on that age group's costs. People saying otherwise simply don't understand you insurance works.
We'll get the "young invincibles" in 2015 and 2016 when the penalty goes up.

(27,787 posts)And good point on the incentive for the insurers.
The last thing they want is to get left out as people sign up. I mean, if insurer X makes it hard to sign up, people will go to insurer Y.
They'll either compete to make it better, or miss out on their slice of a growing pie.

(8,377 posts)my father was having some outpatient surgery, and the quickest path to the surgery center is through the ER wing. There were signs everywhere about seminars Anthem was holding to sign people up. They know a good law when they write one.

(22,308 posts)who have been allowed to stay on their parent(s) health care plan?
If so, I think we should start using that ten million number around April first... well.. OK, the second.
I'm having difficult time enrolling in Obama care here in PA. I have been told that I qualify for a subsidy but can't access available plans on the website. There is a website set up by a few individuals that lets you see available plans. I thought I bookmarked the site but can't find it. Does anyone know the site address?
Thank you for any help.
A really huge thank you for the info.
