1. A Comment About The Al Jazeera Channel.....
Thu Dec 5, 2013, 06:27 PM
Dec 2013

Everytime I've watched Al Jazeera I'm pleased. I like a lot of the newspeople that are on that network - a number of familiar faces that I've watched and liked on other news networks.

Problem is I don't think that a lot of people are watching. I don't know that for a fact - but I never hear anyone comment about it - this is one of the few posts that I've seen lately that even mention - Al Jazeera. Do they get good ratings - I don't know - but I suspect that they don't in comparison to Fox, CNN and MSNBC.

Why? Well I think it's the name of the channel that's its biggest drawback.

What's in a name?

When I hear the name Al Jazeera - I associate it with the Iraq War and I think a lot of people do. A lot of people have bad memories about that war - it's left a bad taste in the mouths of Americans - and I'm wondering if they don't tune in because of that.

I'd be interested to hear what others here on DU think about that. Do others share my feelings or am I just hanging out there all by myself.

I'm thinking that if they changed their name from Al Jazeera to something that isn't associated with the MidEast that they might have better ratings.

that was not filtered through the mic and the bush crime family. the names that disgust me from the iraq war include bush, cheney, rice, rumsfeld, halliburton, and so on.

known facts are fascinating. I am reporting is riveting. A lot of the news on Al Jazeera is without bias. I immediately turn to it in the morning as an alternative
to Morning Joe.

I think a lot of people aren't watching because they simply can't get it yet.
Some David Shuster comments from yesterday

Progressives say they win arguments that are fact based. If that's what you want in news, turn off @msnbc and watch @ajam. #realnews

David Shuster ?@DavidShuster 20h
.@LindaLeigh226 Really? What helps America more? @msnbc non-stop punditry and prison docs... or non-stop straight American reporting @ajam?

David Shuster ?@DavidShuster 20h
.@sidi88 @LindaLeigh226 @msnbc @ajam The only guidance has been to report fearlessly + tell the truth. I didn't have that under GE.

As one of a growing list of journalists who've anchored @msnbc 4pm, here's to hoping the slot is filled by another journalist, not a pundit.

jfyi that was sarcasm... unfortunately Aljazeera English isn't streamable online anymore, I used to watch that all the time.
The video you are trying to watch cannot be viewed from your current location. Please visit AlJazeera.com/America to view content available in the USA

AlJazeera America is fine but I miss the more International English version... maybe someone here knows how to stream AJE?

Bummer. They have their videos posted but I didn't try to access those. Almost all the news I watch online is "after the fact" but only and hour or two old. Wonder if that's how AJE works? Too bad. Just another way we are "protected" from knowing what's really happening. BBC is about half to three quarters believable according to my international friends so that's a grain of salt source too.

Sad trombone sound...
