As an Obama supporter I was glad to see Obama awarded this prize for basically not being George W Bush.
Since that time I have watched the Obama administration continue down a road of violence and war. The Afghan war is bringing America shame around the world as it should. Our actions are reprehensible and aptly bear the resemblance of an occupying country that uses brute force to control the people of Afghanistan.
President Obama has more than proved he can out hawk his Republican counter parts. Now that Osama Bin Laden is dead, the main target of the war on terror, it is time for Obama to PROVE that he is a man of peace.
America will spend over one trillion dollars on the military and security in 2012 alone. Obama needs to openly address this wasteful spending that is making America a police state and the world a place of constant war.
Yes President we know you are tough and a bad ass when it comes to war and continuing the police state in America. Now prove you can be a man of peace.
The drone attacks must end! No one elected Obama judge jury and executioner. Expedience does not justify circumventing the law. Collateral damage are DEAD CHILDREN. This is not acceptable!
The Afghan war must cease ASAP! Bring the troops home! Set the table and get it DONE!
Repeal the Patriot Act!
Close Guantanamo Bay one way or another!
Reduce Department of Homeland Security spending on programs that spy on America and violate of rights!
Reduce projected military spending which is out of control so we can afford entitlement programs, infrastructure restoration, and work towards balancing the budget.
America does not need to out spend the entire rest of the world to make America safe.
I gave president Obama my vote and my trust in 2008. Obama needs to restore my faith and trust in his presidency.
While I applaud president Obama's efforts to restore the economy the right wing hawkish military police state mentality must end!
[End rant]

(11,641 posts)for him. I defended him and his policies passionately his first two years in forums where I work online when the conservatives started immediately bashing him before he was even in office.
But the change I was expecting has been put on the back burner or even worse tossed in the trash.
It is very frustrating.

(32,090 posts)it's gotten to the point now where Russia and China have had enough of NATO (read Pravda's opinion page today for an example of that) and these types of attacks do not sit well.
Obvious disclaimer - we all know who got into this war & the dangers of leaving the region up in arms. In the interest of world peace, however, I hope the president can find a way to do it. Really sad situation.

The soldier who went on a different kind of killing rampage has been treated like a worthless pawn by this president and our country.

think
(11,641 posts)is very saddening as well. Obama has shown much more respect for Vets than the Bush administration but the wars need to end, jobs created for veterans, and make sure Vets have places to live.
It will cost money but that is money better spent in my eyes than lining the pockets of the military industrial complex while they prep us for the next war. It is time to put the needs of veterans and Americans in general ahead of the wants and desires of the war machine.
No Vet should be homeless.
More than 67,000 homeless veterans were counted on a given January night in America last year. More than 4 in 10 homeless veterans were found unsheltered.
