They even threw little Jimmy Baker out there today to rewrite St. Ronnie history

On CBS of course, the new Faux snooze.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/politico-live/2013/12/baker-reagan-regret-over-south-africa-veto-179107.html?hp=r7

Former Secretary of State James Baker said on Sunday that the late President Ronald Reagan had expressed regret over his veto of sanctions on South Africa's government during apartheid.

"I'm sure he did regret it, Bob, in fact, I'm certain that he did," Baker told host Bob Schieffer on CBS's "Face the Nation". "It was after all, I think, the only time a veto of his had been overridden in two terms. And so, certainly, he regretted it."

After Congress overrode the veto, Baker said Reagan made an effort to reach out to South Africa's anti-apartheid leaders.

(snip)

"Had it not been for Nelson Mandela, and by the way, F.W. de Klerk, there have been blood flowing through the streets when apartheid ended in South Africa," Baker said.

What really happened:

(snip)

He vetoed it.

Reagan took his case directly to the people on a live TV broadcast. He echoed Crocker in urging Americans to be patient with South Africa's apartheid government. Reagan argued that sanctions would disproportionately hurt black South Africans without significantly undermining apartheid, and blamed black extremists for contributing to the violence. Change, if it were to come at all, would happen incrementally. He believed he had sold his case effectively, and considered the matter closed.

(snip)

Reagan issued a tersely worded response:

"I deeply regret that Congress has seen fit to override my veto of the Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act of 1986. Punitive sanctions, I believe, are not the best course of action; they hurt the very people they are intended to help ... [T]his will not solve the serious problems that plague that country."

(end snip)

No, Jimmy. Ronnie Rayguns only regretted that Congress had blemished his disgusting record.

Reagan was only sorry he didn't get his way. They should stop trying to re-write history.

particularly after what he and his goons did to Carter. Can you imagine what would happen if 200 plus marines were slaughtered anywhere in the world while Obama is President?
They don't even mention it when they speak of St Ronnie and they never mention that he vetoed against sanctions in South Africa. Ronnie was no Saint.

doesn't even ask for the absolute basic evidence for his claim. Did he ever express his regret publicly? Privately?

No, Schieffer just lets Baker channel Reagan supernaturally on his supposed news show.

He was embarrassed his veto was overridden, not embarrassed for doing it in the first place.
