The ice storm which swirled through Texas, Kentucky, Illinois and Arkansas over the weekend led to a huge build-up of ice on apartment blocks and high-rise buildings.
In one video, large sheets of ice tumble from 40ft high blocks onto pavements below, smashing into cars and terrifying pedestrians.
Another amateur video captures the moment an enormous ice sheet falls five storeys onto a car in Plano, Texas.

(23,297 posts)There was an over-hanging sign on the front of the building. We had a lot of snow that year and it was beginning to melt. A huge (2' x 2' x 2') chunk of ice fell from the sign and missed me by 3 feet.

(24,853 posts)Like an idiot I turned on the wipers... both wiper blades snapped like twigs, leaving only the arms. It was about 6 in the a.m. and I was able to clear it off at the light. Took about 10 minutes with the scraper I had in the back.
