Wow! Healthcare.gov Has A Waiting Room

Wow! Healthcare.gov Has A Waiting Room

by hungrycoyote

I have some free time this afternoon and decided to go ahead and select my healthcare plan. I've already completed the application process, and just need to choose a plan and pay my premium. To my amazement, when I arrived at healthcare.gov this is what greeted me when I clicked the LOG IN link:

There is also an alert on the frontpage of healthcare.gov that states:

During times of especially high demand, you may be queued to begin your online Marketplace application to ensure the best possible shopping experience.

Color me impressed. I don't ever recall going to a site and being told we have so many people here right now that you'll need to wait your turn. Usually if there are too many people on a site, it just crashes.

I've kept the page open and can tell that approximately every 60 seconds it reloads as if it is checking to see if there is room to let me in yet. In the 10 minutes it took me to put together this diary, my wait ended. The screen just switched to the Log In page and I was able to log in without any further delay.

It's the only time I ever see those magazines. I go through and open all the perfume and cologne ads, to freshen things up in the waiting room. It's my little way of helping out.

Been to a medical clinic lately? They have waiting rooms, too. Everyone sits until their name is called.

It's no big deal. What's bad is not having any way to tell people you'll be with them shortly. That's bad. Waiting rooms? Not bad.

He can't recall any other site having a waiting room because if they did no one would stay. That customer would immediately be lost. They would shop somewhere else. The only reason it works for this site is because the customer is getting money (subsidies) to use it.

server can't handle any more traffic effectively. You just don't get to the site. The waiting room concept at least acknowledges that you are there and promises to let you in as soon as room is available. In the meantime, it offers ways you can use that waiting time to browse plans and learn stuff.

You see, I like this idea. You do not. We differ.

Searching the plans another thirty minutes. He is good to go. Not cheap as we do not qualify for subsidies. Eight hundred plus a month for a good plan. He has been in the hospital three times since august and I don't want a high deductible or out of pocket. We are depleted as it is after all this.
