Meghan McCain: 'I've Seen A Therapist' Over Media's Criticism Of Body

Meghan McCain: 'I've Seen A Therapist' Over Media's Criticism Of Body
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/12/meghan-mccain-therapist-body-image_n_1339054.html

In a new interview, Meghan McCain reveals that she has seen a therapist over the media's criticism of her body.

The MSNBC contributor and daughter of Sen. John McCain was speaking to Forbes reporter Meghan Casserly at SXSW over the weekend. Casserly asked her about a 2009 picture of herself in a tank top that sparked a flurry of commentary on Twitter.

McCain responded:

"Now I'm very sensitive to any pictures taken of myself at photoshoots and whatever because the Internet has this very weird ... especially people in politics ... this very weird reaction to my body because I'm not super skinny, I have large breasts, I know, they're real, I can't do anything about it, and like the Internet just has this really weird reaction to my body ... I've seen a therapist about it."

Glenn Beck and Laura Ingraham, amongst others, have targeted McCain's appearance and weight before. She dismissed what she described as some people's expectation that women in the media need to slim down.

Interesting that it's the right-wing that makes fun of her weight. If I want to be critical about Meghan McCain it isn't about her body but many of her political view points, which I disagree with. Personally I think the girl looks fine the way she is and it's sad that people use her weight instead of her political viewpoints in discussing her.

Even though she is more moderate than most repukes there is plenty I can criticize her for politically without going after her looks.

Hell..I think she looks good

She's pro choice...pro Gay Rights.

She may be the perfect spokesperson to help us move mods/indies to our side once she jumps ship...which I believe she will do.

but I can't seem to work up any sympathy for him.

eta: I just watched the video and no matter what I think of her politics I think it's a terrible thing that she would be attacked for her looks. She is a beautiful woman. It totally sucks that any woman would need to seek therapy because of stupid shit people say about they way they look... I agree that it is very likely a way to minimize and marginalize her voice. I wish I knew more to do to get society past that gross behavior.

point is whether male or female we go after looks as an easy target.

Overweight?Expect to get blasted for it.

Too good looking? You're judged based solely on looks too.

It's silly

I wouldn't mind snuggling up to her, so long as we didn't discuss politics.

Well, I *MIGHT* want to try and find out why any woman who isn't part of some religious mind-control cult and "submissive" to their husband would want to be anywhere NEAR the GOP...

Oh, I forgot, she smokes, doesn't she?

apparently she doesn't smoke, as she described (in the context of Boehner) as a sign of weakness.

So she rises up a notch in my book.

Seriously, though, I wonder how she justifies throwing in with a bunch of mouth-breathing troglodytes that'd like to see her barefoot, knocked-up, and chained to a stove?

If I remember correctly, the attacks on Meghan were after she said something about Palin not being prepared to run in the 2008 election.

I don't like Meghan McCain's politics, but it's so unfair to objectify her body. It's not slut shaming; it's fat shaming, and women are subjected to it in a way that men never are.

I'm glad she saw someone and I hope it helped.
