Another ACA/Obamacare success story

Spent a couple of hours having a great catch-up chat with a dear old (um, long-standing) friend last night, who, despite his slightly right-ward leanings and general dislike of President Obama, is always at least open-minded enough to listen. Since I knew both he and his partner are self-employed and bought their own health insurance, I broached the topic of ACA sign-up.

He says, "Oh yeah, I meant to tell you about that. I finally went on the site on Wednesday and it only took me about an hour to get everything done. And I have to admit, it's going to save me a boat-load of money for the same coverage."

Bottom line: He and his partner were each spending over $700/month for their Silver-equivalent programs. As of January 1, the new cost will be: $49/month for my friend and $110/month for his partner for coverage at the same Silver level, but with better deductibles and co-pays. (Different income subsidies.) He's now a believer!

that, she ended up saving $4 a month. So she is getting much more for her money, and $4 in change.

Her state, Alabama, doesn't have their own exchange.
