"Dressed in a red Santa suit, white beard and rimless glasses balanced on his nose, Langston Patterson sits on a velvet couch and waits for his adoring fans.
Some call first to make sure he will be there. They come from Palmdale, Thousand Oaks and San Bernardino, driving past many shopping malls with Santas, but none that look like him.
For nearly a decade, Patterson has been the main attraction at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza during Christmastime: a rare black Santa Claus in a sea of white ones.
The mall, located in the heart of black Los Angeles, is one of the few in the country with a black Santa Claus. Some say Patterson is the only black shopping-mall Santa Claus in the Los Angeles area."
The rest of the heartwarming story..

(45,806 posts)I'm old now, but it never occurred to me that Santa had a race. I'm now wondering if little kids ever even noticed the race of Santa. It's ridiculous that FOX actually said "Santa is white, and so is Jesus"!!!! Doesn't that dumb broad know Jesus was a JEW and most likely NOT white like she stated!
I think it's great the black Santa has been appearing in that Los Angeles Mall, and I HOPE he's not the only one!

(18,755 posts)I provided some entertainment at a Christmas party and toy distribution for families that are having financial difficulties. The Santa at the party was black and not one single child cared. They saw Santa and were very happy.

Jahleel Logan, 3, poses with Santa Claus, a.k.a. Langston Patterson, 77, at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza. Patterson has been the South L.A. mall's Santa since 2004, with African American families coming at specific times of the day just to visit him. "I just don't want him to think that all greatness comes from a different race," said Jahleel's godmother, Arlene Graves, 45. "There are Santa Clauses his color doing good work too." (Jay L. (29,675 posts)I knew the Santa in my area-it was a college kid who would work at all the stores and restaurants. He used the money for books for the next semester. He always did a great job, considering he was an early childhood education major it was a near perfect fit for him.
