This is my dad...

Last edited Sun Dec 22, 2013, 12:58 AM - Edit history (1)

I'd like to share this you. It's Gospel music, so if you don't like that style music...

I'm not very good at writing these things.

He's not my biological dad, he's my step dad. He's raised me from a very young age.

It was him that taught me to love all types of music. He didn't always sing Gospel, he used to belt out Al Green like no body's business, plus a whole host of others.

He's the best person I know. He'd give a stranger on the street his last dollar or the shirt off his back if they needed it.

He's seen so much hate in his life (he's 77) yet he never has a bad word for anyone. That's how I was raised. He used to say I guess your mom and I didn't do you kids any favors by getting married. I would always tell him he's crazy, being raised in a family that was not only racially mixed, but was sexually diverse, religiously diverse etc we never judged people. We accepted people for who they were, they did us a favor, we were lucky to have a chance to grow in such a family.

My dad is a Christian, he's a very active in his church, and I can say proudly that I've never heard him use his faith or religion to degrade or judge anyone. He's always said his God, the God he loves, is a God of love and He created EVERYONE and God doesn't make mistakes.

Next to his family music is his greatest love.

He'll be 78 on 12/29. His voice isn't quite what it used to be, but I still enjoy hearing it. This is from a CD his church choir just did. I don't know who put it on youtube....but like parents can be proud of their children, children can be proud of their parents. *proud*

edited to add: I just realized this was cut off. I apologize. I'm trying to figure out how to get the whole thing on here.

Thanks to everyone for the very kind words!!! I'm am very lucky, even when my dad is gone, I'll be able to hear his voice. I have other recordings as well. I also have him on video singing at my wedding.

You can hear the joy in the music and the joy it returns to the performers -- and the listeners. I think that's a wonderful sound.

My dear sweet mother-in-law was a lot like your Dad.

She was a minister's daughter. She and her father would travel by horse and cart to visit and share
with the dirt farmers scattered around the area.

The piano was loaded into the back of the cart and her father would preach and share with families
and my mother-in-law would play the piano and sing hymns.

If I was a disappointment to her, I am an atheist, you would never know because she treated me with love and respect.

She was kind to all and never judged, anyone. My definition of a Christian.
