But not because it offends people working of their own free will, but because these same rich, white, Christian people do not want to help those in need, they think they are lazy and not trying to do anything to help themselves. All they see is the Fox News show with the surfer getting food stamps. So many people have fallen on hard times for reasons that the Republicans can't understand. I have a nephew who is disabled and autistic. He gets federal disability. He was getting help from state Medicaid, but it was cut off (thanks to Rick Perry), and now at the end of the month he is out of money to buy food. My daughter, who is 55 lost, her job about 2 years ago. She has not been able to find decent employment. She is barely getting by doing part-time work and selling on Ebay. She applies for jobs and never hears back. These are common everyday problems and this is what happening in America. If jobs do show up, they do not pay well. All the high paying jobs are being exported and many jobs are being replaced with robots. This means that there are less jobs with lower pay rates and there are more people competing for them.

The Republicans make me think of the British conservative government during the time of the Irish potato famine. At that time that millions of people were dying of starvation, Ireland was a top exporter of agricultural products. Yet the government gave the poor Irish people little assistance, thinking they were lower class, uneducated and lazy. The Irish men had to dig rocks to build roads before they could get any aid for their starving families. I saw a documentary on PBS about this and it showed the remains of roads they tried to build in their weakened condition. While America benefited from this tragedy by the wave of Irish immigrants coming to our shores, it took Ireland decades to recover from this tragedy. It will take us at least a decade to recover from our financial crisis, and if the aid is cut further, it will take longer.

'privilege of the few' is rightwing versus leftwing 'needs of the many' going back to French Revolution when the rich landowners, the wealthy, church, the favoured aristocrats and the established military, along with their servants and the lower class fools were represented on the right of the National Assembly by rightwing deputies while the poor, small biz, the workers and students/common soldiers etc were on the left. Obviously, it quickly emerged that the left far outnumbered the right, so, well democracy has been sorta screwed up ever since. Indeed, Aristotle, who noticed the 'rabble' outnumbered the elite, thought democracy was a lost cause...a well to do society is by nature rightwing, but it aint gonna happen!
