BOISE, Idaho Idaho stepped closer to requiring women to undergo an ultrasound examination of their fetus before terminating a pregnancy, a measure anti-abortion advocates hope will convince more women to opt against such a procedure.
Boise Sen. Chuck Winder's legislation cleared the Senate State Affairs Committee Wednesday on a 7-2 vote, with Republicans favoring it and Democrats voting against.
More than 200 people packed the emotional two-hour hearing. Opponents compared the bill to laws favored by Afghanistan's Taliban, while advocates argued those who would oppose requiring women to view their fetus were comparable to Holocaust deniers.
Requiring doctors to perform an ultrasound, then ask women to view ultrasound images of their fetuses and listen to its heartbeat, would provide them with up-to-date information about the status of their fetus that would help them recognize the consequences of their decision, said Kerry Uhlenkott, of Right to Life of Idaho.

And there's people who say there's no difference between the 2 parties. Really? Because if I read that article correctly, Democrats voted against this abomination.

(67,112 posts)the crazy door is open it's hard to tell where this crap stops. I still believe in my lifetime we will see the US become a hellhole, a theocratic dystopia. The nuttiness of this nation continues to grow and grow.

(4,246 posts)Not so LOL on your thoughts. I, too, believe a theocracy is possible in our lifetime. China will look positively progressive by comparison.
The crazies are forever motivated to vote and the rest of us... well, if we were just as motivated and made voting top priority, the crazies wouldn't be as powerful. What does it say for a country where only a small percentage of the population bothers to vote.

(51,473 posts)until about 6 weeks into the pregnancy. Most abortions occur before then. I believe these intrusive laws are to delay those early abortions.

(60,010 posts)Nationally, 20 states have some type of ultrasound law that governs ultrasound procedures prior to an abortion, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a nonprofit that researches and tracks sexual and reproductive health issues.
Those laws vary.
Seven states require some form of pre-abortion ultrasound screening:
They are Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
Virginia's new law takes effect in July.
Nine states require that the provider offer the woman the chance to see the image if an ultrasound is performed:
Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio, South Carolina, Utah and West Virginia
.Five states require that the provider offer an ultrasound screening: Indiana, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota and Utah.
I found this at the bottom of the page of a very local news item:
