To me the approval/disapproval numbers for the ACA demonstrate the lack of vision that I see from people on the far Left. Disapproval is running about 53%, where as approval is running at around 42%, with the rest of people polled giving no opinion. A large part of the 53% disapproval comes from Left leaning people that think the ACA doesn't go far enough, that there should be Single Payer.
The issue is that the media quote the 53% disapproval number is people being solidly against the idea of healthcare reform to begin with. I have seen only one, I repeat ONE person point out that a large part of the disapproval is from people that want Single Payer. My suggestion to people that want Single Payer who gets polled is that unless the questioner clearly gives you a choice other than approve or disapprove, don't answer, OR say you approve. The disapproval number is being used as a cudgel by republicans and the rightwing media to cause confusion among Americans that need to sign up for health care coverage, but see the information that most Americans disapprove and sit on their hands.

(945 posts)...and repealing is less and less likely, I'm wondering if these polls will matter or not. Pretty soon it's going to be like asking a polling question about the speed limit or social security. The polls will be insignificant.

(10,942 posts)"proof" there are problems with the ACA. This is what disappoints me about people that want something better like Single Payer adding to those disapproval numbers. If the ACA fails, forget Single Payer. BTW, I don't think the ACA will fail. I think January will show even more people signing up as their old policies are reaching expiration.

(14,449 posts)People need to answer more positively on the overall use of ACA. Today in USA Today they had another negative story on how Doctors are quitting over ACA and that it is going to be impossible to get an appointment to see your doctor. Now why give a story like this NOW? Why not see what happens and then perhaps write a story on how to get an appointment. Make the "negative" into a positive. The other negative story was about companies with 50-1000 employees are going to drop the health benefit and have the people go on ACA because of the new expenses incurred. Again, why not wait and see how it is going to run instead of "jumping the gun". I just think people need to relax and see how this is going to work instead of overreacting. Another stupid story was that you have to pay the entire monthly premium and later you get the credit. I wrote on the site .Bull crap!!!!

(13,181 posts)These are companies of people whose business is polling. They must surely know that they are counting the two sides of the bell curve together. They aren't, in other words, as dumb as the journalists who blithely report the distorted results.
Because "approval" polls are all subject to this same distortion, no liberal in their right mind should ever express disapproval of the ACA to a pollster, nor should they, for example, express disapproval of Obama to a pollster. To do so is equivalent to lying by proxy.

(17,493 posts)even more accurate and will better reflect the views of those who get their health care though work.
I am one of those who was wishing for a single payer system. Still I have some hopes that the ACA will work out over time. I am already on a form of single payer health care which is called Medicare.
I sincerely hope that the ACA works out well and that it does reduce the exorbitant cost of our heath care system. I think we can all agree that the launch of the web site was disappointing. If the actually program is half as bad as what Fox News and the Republicans are predicting. we definitely will face a difficult midterm election. If most people like the ACA, we may take back control of the House.
Time will tell.
