Yes, several of the richest relatives I have were basically the family idiots. They were the ones that screwed up in school and elsewhere and everyone thought they would starve when out on their own. We are all still surprised that two particular family members have become the millionaires when the smartest ones are basically just doing OK. Why is that? I have my opinion, but its not a nice thing to say.
