ok finally duck dynasty childbride comments hit msm

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/is-ae-walking-a-fine-line-over-duck-dynastys-phil-robertson/

There’s a new controversy surrounding "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson as a video made four years ago surfaced showing the show’s patriarch talking about the merits of marrying teenage girls. In the video, Robertson says “Look, you wait till they get to be 20 years old - the only picking that’s gonna take place is your pocket. You gotta marry these girls when they’re about 15 or 16.”

..."Duck Dynasty family matriarch Kay Robertson spoke at the “Night of Ducks and Hucks” fundraising event in Monroe, North Carolina Saturday. Miss Kay talked candidly about the well-publicized dark period she endured with husband Phil during the early days of their marriage, going as far as to explain how her oldest son Alan, at the tender age of just 10, convinced her not to take her own life.

As Phil discussed in his book “Happy, Happy, Happy,” he was a man more interested in killing ducks and getting his next drink than he was at being a husband or father. He left Kay alone to raise Alan, Jase and Willie (Jep wasn’t born yet) as he fell deeper and deeper into alcoholism."...

He is NOT saying 'old men' should marry young girls - he is referring to young guys finding their high school sweetheart to marry as opposed to waiting until later in life when 'some' gals marry for money.

I think 'this issue' is being taken out of context and is being over blown.

You're defending a man who says men should marry 15-year-old girls rather than waiting until they're (gasp) 20, and the reason is that by the time they're 20 all they want to do is "pick your pockets"?

So I guess he'd tell the girls in his family -- if there were any -- that they should marry boys of 15, rather than waiting until they're 20, because by the time they're 20 "they're only after one thing". Right? (of course not -- it's only girls who need to be plucked when young, so they can be controlled)

YOU'RE DEFENDING THIS SHIT?

From Slate:

Culture warriors on the right spent the bulk of the holiday season establishing Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty as a martyr because the millionaire was suspended from his television show after making grossly homophobic and racist statements to a GQ reporter. The strategy worked, and A&E reinstalled Robertson to his apparently First Amendment–guaranteed spot on reality TV, which in turn sent liberal bloggers back to YouTube to find more incidents of Robertson saying terrible things about the nonwhite, nonmale, nonstraight portions of the population.

The hunt didn't take long. This weekend bloggers turned up a video from 2009 in which Robertson advises marrying underage girls because they are easier to dominate than those who've graduated high school.

In the video, a Sportsmen's Ministry talk, Robertson laments that good women are hard to find, saying, "Mainly because these boys are waiting until they get to be about 20 years old before they marry 'em. Look, you wait until they get to be 20 years old, the only picking that's going to take place is your pocket."

His advice for a happy marriage is to make like R. Kelly and hang out in high-school parking lots. "You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16. They'll pick your ducks." (No, "pick your ducks" is not sexual innuendo—Robertson is talking about cleaning the feathers off of dead birds, a miserable task often left to women to perform.) "You need to check with mom and dad about that of course," sage Robertson wisely advises, but he does not explain how to convince the parents of teenage girls to let them marry grown men who are tired of cleaning their own dead birds.

They are happy to have girls when they are little because they help around the house & help care for the younger ones, BUT when they hit puberty, it changes.. they become an "attractive nuisance...like a swimming pool.....nice to have around but dangerous too, because they could get pregnant and their child then becomes YOUR responsibility, so of course then they must be bartered off & out of the house ASAP..they are someone else's "problem" then.

The sad thing is that in later life it's not the sons who end up being caretakers of callous parents...it's usually the daughters..

Consider:
"A&E, is an American cable and satellite television channel that serves as the flagship television property of A+E Networks, a joint venture between the Hearst Corporation and Disney–ABC Television Group"

That isn't FOX.

I think it helps to show who *all* these MSM corporations are pandering to, and how low they go.

Not that I think "Leave it to Beaver" is a model to return to.

But I find it hard to imagine one pleading with her parents to let her marry some scraggly old man. Very few scraggly old men are rich, and surely the girls know that for them such a marriage most likely means living in poverty in some Godforsaken shithole, cooking and changing diapers all day. There really are worse things than death.

The law that states you have to be 18 to marry without the consent of a parent should be changed.

My mother's refusal to sign papers to allow me to marry when I was young ruined my life many decades ago.

Funny how we heard about this a week ago...

Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson has just managed to avoid a suspension over his controversial remarks to GQ magazine, but a video from 2009 could cause another headache for the Duck Commander patriarch. In a speech to a 2009 gathering of the Sportsmen’s Ministry, Robertson offered marriage advice to the men in the crowd, which included standard yesteryear fare like finding a woman who can cook, but which also included a clear instruction to marry 15-year-old girls, or, alternately, 16-year-olds.

My dad, one of the most intelligent people I have ever met, encouraged me to get my education, that no matter who I married, I had to be able to take care of myself because husbands' die, husbands' leave, etc. I married at 22- half way through a grad school fellowship. My family has always been better for it and I was able to retire in my mid-50's (10 years ago) because of my dad's superb advice. I will forever be grateful to my father. (I now do volunteer work I love twice a week. I have also taken in several strays and have a very sweet handicapped dog I must care for several times a day. And soon I will be taking the training to be a critter foster mom.)
A good person, a caring spouse, wants everyone to be the best they can be. To purposefully create dependency by marrying a young teenage girl is just plain sick!
People really defend this guy?!? Disgusting! He cares for no one but himself!

-snip-

Robertson can be seen offering what he calls “river rat counseling” to the group, and then goes on to suggest that “you got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16.” After suggesting that a younger woman will “pluck your ducks,” he adds, “Look, you wait 'til they get to be 20 years old, the only picking that's going to take place is your pocket," he says.

The riff is similar to one he relates in his book, “Happy, Happy, Happy: My life and legacy as the Duck Commander,” where Robertson writes that a teen bride would “pluck your ducks” while a 20-year-old “would only pick your pockets.” Robertson adds in his book, "Now, that's a joke, and a lot of people seem to laugh at it, but there is a certain amount of truth in it."

In the video, Robertson couches his advice to marry ‘em early by saying, “You need to check with mom and dad about that, of course.” Indeed, most states allow 16-year-olds to marry as long as parents consent and attend the ceremony. Some US states allow teens under 16 to marry, but only if a judge OKs the nuptials. Some states allow a pregnant teenager to wed without mom and dad’s blessings.
