MSNBC Panel Criticized For Segment About Romney's Black Grandchild

MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry and the panelists on her Sunday morning show drew criticism Monday for poking fun at a Romney family photo that included their adopted African-American grandson, Kieran Romney.

Harris-Perry had the panelists attempt to caption a Romney family photo, which included all of Mitt Romney's grandchildren.

....

Panelist and comedian Dean Obeidallah said the photo "really sums up the diversity of the Republican party." And actress Pia Glenn started singing "one of these things is not like the other."

TPM with a bunch of tweets demanding apologies

I stumbled across a hateathon between Dean and Dana Loesch and her Breitheads piling on accusing him of racism. It took me a while to figure out what the brouhaha was all about.

I hope the Romney's hang on to the kid's birth certificate and get him proper I.D. when he's older so he can vote.

I cringed, badly, when I saw it. When they first started talking about it, I thought it might be a launching pad to a discussion of cross-racial adoptions, which is controversial in some circles, but no. MH-P and the panelists had absolutely nothing to say of substance about it, just crass and downright juvenile "cool kids" snark. I thought it was wholly unbecoming of progressives (who should be happy that an orphaned child has a home now instead of an institution, irrespective that that home is with a political opponent -- note I did not say "enemy&quot , and wholly unbecoming a professional news and commentary organization.

I expect it on blogs, but I lament in the strongest possible way that snark among the professional commentariat has now taken the place of reasoned, well thought out opinions.

Ugh!!
