All of the dogs belonging to former Bullhead City, Arizona mayor Diane Vick will be euthanized after one killed her husband.
Vick was injured and her husband Tom killed after the couple tried to break up a fight between two of their dogs, a boxer and a cocker spaniel. The Arizona Republic reports the couples other four dogs eventually joined in the fight.
The couple's cocker spaniel died from injuries sustained in the fight. Police said the couple's five remaining dogs were put in a 10-day quarantine by animal control, where the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports they'll be monitored for signs of rabies.
According to the AP, those dogs will be euthanized according to a request from the Vick family.

Generally speaking, if you hear the dogs roaring and see teeth flashing, it is a lot of show. Someone is going to have a few holes in their ears or back of their neck, but it is more of a "dog argument" than an all-out fight. You can usually yell at the dogs or hose them off in this situation (still do not grab the dogs)
If you hear nothing but hot panting breath and teeth clicking -- it is to the death, make no mistake. In that case, try to get a board or a door or ANYTHING between those dogs, but do NOT get in the middle of it yourself.
Mr. Leerburg offers some solid advice on how to pull this off.

(14,881 posts)This winter, my 2 have had arguments twice in recent weeks. They're not getting their usual walks and exercise due to the weather, so they get antsy.
2 I can handle; one sharp word from me and their arguments end instantly.
I can't imagine trying to break up a fight with 5 or 6 dogs.

(7,318 posts)city law by having more than the three dogs allowed per household. Looks like a case of a city official thinking she's above the law and gets bit by it.

That was wrong. It's unjust to euthanize all the dogs in a household because one of them mauled a guy to death and injured another. Only the guilty dog should have been euthanized.

(7,318 posts)People have been executed for participating in a robbery where someone was killed (often unplanned), but they weren't the one who pulled the trigger. Some weren't even in the area where the victim was killed (ie being the lookout guy or get-away driver).
I'm really against these unjust laws, but there doesn't seem to be the social will to change them.
ETA: your example isn't applicable, because the murder's family didn't participate, but the Vicks other pitbull-mix dogs joined in the fight
