Can We Talk About The Rape Scene In The Wolf Of Wall Street? (Spoiler Alert)

http://www.thatgirlmag.com/spoiler-alert-wolf-wall-street/

At first I thought perhaps the first article was actually going to talk about the rape scene, but the sentence actually goes on to say “Wolf of Wall Street could’ve shown Jordan Belfort raping his own mother and some people would still think he’s a hero because he had a yacht.” Is it ironic that even the writers of this article don’t seem to have noticed Belfort actually raping his own wife?

The rest of the search results are just incidentally related to sex somehow. Whatever, google.

So why isn’t anyone talking about the time Jordan Belfort raped his wife?

snip

Is it because eventually she kind of agrees to it? Because that's not what consent is. Consent is not saying "Well, your penis is already inside me, so I guess this is just going to happen, so… fine."

It's kind of pointless to put Spoiler Alert in the title when the spoiler happens in the title. I'm just saying.

And evidently, since it has received no other attention, it's not really worth calling that a spoiler is it?

He also beat the crap out of her, and endangered his daughter's life. The guy was scum on many different levels and should have done more time than he did.

Glad I didn't plan on seeing that movie or I'd be pissed.

Maybe you could edit to "Wolf of Wall Street ( spoilers)"

Then you notice it's not all rape world all the time. I see men and women talking to each other, laughing, having fun. It's a good antidote to what you get on here.

Do you have anything to say about that?

It's funny, you know, that you said yesterday that you didn't want to talk about rape anymore but here you are telling us to stop thinking about rape.

in High Plains Drifter. At least, that's the first I remember of such a scene.

My use of "acceptable" is sarcasm and I find it disgusting that anyone finds anything acceptable about rape.

read the article.

There's one thing I'd like to point out:

Because marital rape has been illegal in the United States since the sixties.

This is not factual. It wasn't until 1993 that there was some form of recourse for marital rape in all states in the US. To this day, some states still have exceptions that constitute a higher burden of proof than 'just' non-consent.
