I'm not a fan of the "drinking holidays"

I'm from Savannah (St Pattys), lived in New Orleans (Mardi Gras), and have done my fair share of drinking, but I don't do it on these drinking holidays along with New Years.

"Amateur Hour" is what I refer to these days as. The streets, bars.... are filled with tons of people who may not drink most of the time, but then come out and get drunk on these occasions.

I always try to stay sober and stay away from places with a lot of other people.

That being said, stay safe.

But yeah, I agree with you... I don't find the risks of even mild inebriation in public at all worth it (and haven't for years).

And, if I have to drive home, light social drinking with friends is out too.

Tonight, my furry babe and I are doing a 5K resolution run/walk... Starts at six and we should be home well before the drunks get started, but I will be driving with great caution, nonetheless.

Drinking and planting trees, now that's fun. I don't care what the mall security guard says.

No cabs to be had and underdressed over served 20 somethings wandering the streets trying to flag down (occupied) cabs.

If the weather is bad it will be worse.

Not much of a drinker to begin with, but no way I'm going out with a bunch of drunk fools and take my life in my hands when they get behind the wheel of a car.

This is my daughter's first year with her own car and she's beginning to understand why New Year's Eve was always off limits in my car for a teen.

She even turned down a babysitting job for tonight because it would mean she had to come home on the roads full of drunks.

I'm all for a party, but New Year's never did for me, at least the way it's generally celebrated. I love a good major fireworks display, but the bozos with M-80s and bottle rockets just make it an annoyance in the suburbs.

I have some friends coming over tonight. We've got games, music, and TV. Pork and sauerkraut, Kielbasa, snacks. Plenty of beer, wine, and liquor.

Just started the beef bourguignon, cracked open a bottle of red and began the celebration. I'll be stiff by 6. Maybe I better logout now.

I find no social shortcomings by declining to eat whatever someone puts in front of me or insists I try.

'No, thanks' is a perfectly good response to drink or food.
