Fox's Alan Colmes Defends Melissa Harris-Perry: ‘Panel Was Mocking GOP, Not Romney’s Black Grandson’

by Andrew Kirell | 2:58 pm, December 31st, 2013

MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry and her panel of Dean Obeidallah and Pia Glenn have taken a considerable amount of flak for their poking fun at a photograph of Mitt Romney‘s adopted black grandson, but they have one defender working at a rival network: Fox’s Alan Colmes.

For his Tuesday afternoon blog post, Colmes made his beliefs clear in the headline: “MSNBC Panel Was Mockinig [sic] Republicans, Not Mitt Romney’s Black Grandchild”.

“Melissa Harris-Perry is apologizing for something that she didn’t do wrong,” he wrote. “A photo of the Romney family with a black baby on Mitt’s knee was the subject of a panel discussion on Perry’s MSNBC show. But no one was slighting the baby.”

Citing Obeidallah’s remark that the photo “sums up the diversity of the Republican Party … they find the one black person,” Colmes argued that “right-wing media” jumped all over the story and “reported that the panel made fun of the baby, which isn’t what happened.”

Gotta agree with Alan here. The panel WAS NOT mocking Romney's grandson. They were mocking the GOP.

The baby will grow up thinking that he was adopted as a prop when they are very fond of him, the whole family, and wanted him for himself.

It was not meant as a racial slur or anything negative about the kid, but as he grows older, he may take it that way and that will hurt everyone involved.

In the meantime, he's going to be treated very special by all family members, because he is, because all adopted kids are special...

I'm not entirely convinced he'sYou don't think even just a little bit that not being used by this cynical political family as a prop. I hope it's not the case, but these people haven't demonstrated the strongest of character.
