January 2, 2014 Standing Up for Birds Everywhere

This Sunday, January 5, 2014 is National Bird Day: a day to shine a spotlight on issues critical to the protection and survival of birds, both captive and wild.

Join me in celebrating by:

- Watching Parrot Confidential on our National Bird Day website. This acclaimed 2013 documentary explores the challenges of owning parrots, how breeders and owners become bird rescuers, and conservation efforts taking place around the world.

- Watching a video conversation between Born Free USA’s Executive Vice President, Adam Roberts and Parrot Confidential filmmaker, Allison Argo as they discuss the film, birds around the world, and the importance of National Bird Day.

- Reading why Adam Roberts feels a special connection to National Bird Day and to avian issues.

- Checking out www.nationalbirdday.org for other fun ways to get involved, including following our special six-week blog series written by our resident avian expert, Barry MacKay.

Let’s celebrate our feathered friends – and fight for their humane treatment – on January 5! Think Outside the Cage!

For the animals,

P.S. Please consider making a donation in honor of National Bird Day that will help to fund our important work for birds all year long!

This is especially important considering how cold and snowy it is in many parts of the country. If you don't have any feeders, this is a idea that I saw at a crafts group in a hospital I visited recently. They took large plastic cups, coated the outside surface with peanut butter, and then rolled the cups in bird seed and placed each one over a fence post. The birds loved them!
