Pastafarian Pomfret Town Council member Schaeffer being sworn in with a colander on his head

A unique style of headwear was present during newly-seated Pomfret Town Council member Christopher Schaeffer's oath of office Thursday afternoon, but it wasn't intended to keep his head warm.

Schaeffer wore a colander (a strainer typically used to drain water from spaghetti) while Town Clerk Allison Dispense administered the oath of office to him before the board's reorganizational meeting. When the OBSERVER asked afterward why he wore a colander on his head, Schaeffer said he was a minister with an even more unique organization - the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

"It's just a statement about religious freedom," he said. "It's a religion without any dogma."

If I wanted to look at bizarre foreign pornography then, by golly, I'll go look at it on my own instead of having someone fool me with a link at DU entitled "something interesting over here at some other site".

In this case the link reveals it to be in the state of NY.

Sometimes, the link still doesn't tell you! It's a local rag with no ID as to what state it's in as of course as a local, you know.

I end up googling the name of the town. Which sometimes works.

on top some grated Parmesan. Give us this day, our garlic bread, …and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trample on our lawns. And lead us not into vegetarianism, but deliver us some pizza, for thine is the meatball, the noodle, and the sauce, forever and ever. RA-men

the FSM is a much more universal God than that of most religions. He is just filtered through the various cultures.
From Udon to Sopa to Spaetzle he is everlasting and yummy.

Even those poor souls that have yet to understand the universally tasty range of his starchiness are not to be injured in any way. Oh sure, we have all experienced the inadvertent saucy splash and the slightly-too-crusty garlic accompaniment, but none has ever been maliciously injured for failing to recognize the true meaning of Parmesan.
