5 families to be treated for carbon monoxide poisoning

Members of five families on a weekend ski trip to Vail, Colo., suffered carbon monoxide poisoning and will be treated in the hyperbaric oxygen unit at the Nebraska Medical Center today.

The gas came from a faulty furnace in the house where they were staying, according to a press release from the medical center. The Nebraskans were treated at a Colorado hospital, but many were still feeling side effects after returning home.

“We want to make sure these people get the best medical attention available,” said Dr. Jeff Cooper, medical director of the hyperbaric oxygen unit at the Nebraska Medical Center.

“Hyperbaric oxygen therapy can quickly reduce both the carbon monoxide level in the blood and the symptoms of the poisoning.”

He was working for an insulating company and was loading the fiberglass insulation in the blower that was installed in a construction trailer like you see a lot of small construction companies use to haul their tools to and from a work site. The blower was powered by a gasoline engine and the exhaust was leaking into the trailer where Andy was working. By the time the crew that was in the attic realized something was wrong my nephew was almost dead. He's on disability now and will be the rest of his life because of it. Doctors told him the damage that was done, not sure what all is involved personally, will never go away. Carbon Monoxide poisoning is not to be taken lightly.
Hope these people will be ok.
