"I would never had made a joke if I had an inkling that anyone on my staff had been so stupid and so deceitful to lie to me about the lane closures."
So if his staff hadn't been responsible for the suffering of the people of Fort Lee, he still would have made the joke he had made about the disaster? It still would have been funny to him?
Is that statement not a revealing and damaging one?

In December, Christie mocked a reporter for asking about the scandal at a press conference, joking that he was personally involved.
I worked the cones, actually, Christie joked. Unbeknownst to everybody, I was actually the guy out there. I was in overalls and hat, but I was actually the guy working the cones out there. You really are not serious with that question?

(34,845 posts)"You guys want to keep chasing it around, chase it around. It's your business," he told reporters. "In the meantime, when you all have been chasing around about this, I've been putting policies in effect that have lowered unemployment to a five-and-a-half-year lows. I've come to a compromise agreement on the DREAM Act with the Legislature. I'm putting forward nominations that will be considered in the lame duck session and I'm working with the Senate president and the incoming speaker on an agenda for the new year. Those things are much more important to the people of New Jersey than a couple of cones and a couple of lanes."

(17,199 posts)It shows more than just stupidity. It reveals something SICK. Under NO circumstance should he find funny the bridge lane closings and the misery & suffering those closings caused. I'm not a psychologist but that statement he made today really struck me. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. So twisted and callous.
I can't believe the MSM hasn't said a word about his statement. I really thought the MSM would be jumping on it because in my mind it's SOOOO revealing and newsworthy.

I think so.

(17,199 posts)When Republican candidates say or do something untoward, they stay in office or continue to run for office. Democrats leave office or quit their races.
(And when conservative commentators say something improper, they keep their jobs. Liberal commentators are fired or resign.)

(17,199 posts)The joke about putting out the cones and closing the lanes and all the misery that ensued was funny ... until he learned his staff was behind the whole incident.
Shouldn't the hardship the people of Fort Lee endured be nothing to laugh at, REGARDLESS what caused that hardship?
Before he learned that his own staff caused the mess, IT WAS FUNNY. That's what he's saying.
Who thinks that way???
How INSENSITIVE, CALLOUS, SICKENING.
