(25,592 posts)It really does make a difference. AT&T, Time Warner Cable, Comcast, Verizon and everyone else, upped their speeds and even lowered their prices somewhat. Amazing that.

(3,922 posts)On a normal school day, I'll get 1-2 Mbps download speeds.
I really believe the internet should be available to everybody and the government should control it, like a utility. It should be free.

(7,720 posts)Do you mean like other public utility services are free?
Vashta Nerada
(3,922 posts)You know, like how roads are "free".

(86,776 posts)we don't have the best cell service coverage here either, especially in the mountains. And it was a mess trying to get triangulation with those GPS units we used for Census mapping a few years ago. Tourists have a hard time finding their destinations around here because the GPS data gets messed up and gives them really bogus info.

(3,447 posts)I get about a fourth of that consistently. And it's my single largest non-healthcare bill per month. Or as I call it, 'pathetic'.

(7,754 posts)rural areas you're really lucky to get 5.0 Mbps. In fact, 5.0 is lightning fast compared to what it used to be.
Seems that the internet companies supplied these numbers.

I pay for middle of the road internet speeds. And apparently that's what I get.

(47,953 posts)ATT phone or Comcast cable only. Both suck and are $$$. So much for competition.

(1,754 posts)I had no idea how far behind I was. I really can't even imagine how fast 20+ mbps would be.
