As a Dog owner for most of my life--I can't even fathom strapping my dog on top of my car in a cage.

And even drive half a block.

I couldn't imagine my family---wife and three kids--- allowing me to do it. They would look at me and think I lost my mind.

If truly there was one disqualifying reason for Romney to not be President--- I would put this right on top.

BTW: It is the first time I've ever heard someone do this....

I believe it indicates someone with a deep seated mental problem. It is just too egregious to do such a thing to any animal. It shows a mentality that is subhuman in some way. There is no way to justify such an action ever. I would strap that bastard to the top of a car and drive about 1000 miles and see how he likes it. He is a poor excuse for human existence as is anyone who even remotely believes that such an action is ok.

Romney is the most dangerous kind of sociopath. He looks kind of innocuous but he is very dangerous.

I remember a scene in the Pirates Of The Caribbean when the captain of the British frigate is taking fire from both sides at the end of the movie and the British captain is walking to the back of the ship as it is being splintered by cannon fire from the pirates and the ghost ship. The crew is begging to return fire and the captain is bulge eyed and jsut muttering "but I had a deal I had a deal" as his crew dies with him as the merciless cannon fire just decimates the ship to sawdust.

That is the kind of leader Romney would be. He is just so dangerous and goofy and scary. Imagine him sending us to war with Iran and then not giving orders for our troops to engage.

The inanimate objects - the luggage and supplies. THOSE are what should have been strapped to the roof of the car for that long a drive. TWELVE HOURS??!?!?!??! Yeah. Their stuff goes inside and the poor dog gets tied to the damn roof of the damn car. I read that Seamus ran away when they finally arrived at their destination. No wonder.

When I think how quietly Goldie rides in the car, curled up into a fraction of her full size, and she'd stay like that for hours - it just a freakin' OUTRAGE!!! I couldn't bear to put her in a cage on top of the car! Worse still, SHE couldn't bear it either! Who would have the heart to do that, other than some cold-hearted schmuck who clearly has no heart? WHAT THE FUCK was that smug, cold-hearted, thoughtless, myopic, detached, unfeeling bastard thinking???? What a heartless bastard!!! As my mother used to say - "heart like a BB." Small and cold and hard.

Hey santorum - THIS is what makes a caring and compassionate member of the human race want to throw up. Shit like this (aside from you, which is a rant for another time and another thread than this one). It tells me everything I need to know about how mitt romney views anything outside his cozy little circle of privilege - it's SO elite that even his own family dog isn't allowed to take part.

It strikes to the core of a person's humanity, empathy, core sensibilities, what they are willing to do to a living, breathing, loving creature, and especially a wonderful dog.

Anyone who has looked into a dog's eyes and seen a friend there doesn't forget something like this.

I know Romney is a robot, warped, emotionally stunted. What surprises me is that nobody else said "No. Stop."

BUT

As we've seen, Romney expects to be in charge, not be questioned and doesn't react well to being challenged in any way.

As Brokaw said, business people (who did deals with Romney at Bain) said Romney did well as long as everything followed his Plan A. It was if things got moved to Plan B where he was much LESS impressive.

To me, this means he would be a HORRIBLE President because almost everything ends up as Plan B, C, D .... X, Y or Z.

Things don't go according to plan. As President, you have to be able to call an audible at ANY time.

He would be a disaster as President. I don't know why more people didn't grab onto that little tidbit from Tom Brokaw that election night - I can't even remember which night it was - I think Ohio Primary night.

ie - NO ONE questions dad's decisions. There were 5 kids and a wife - and this was apparently planned in advance.

It is clear that nothing has caused the Republicans to "like" Romney - and I am sure that they really want to. This is just one of the things that will make him not likable to many in the middle. Not to mention - even his strength, Bain Capital, has enormous real negatives. (This is not a Rove situation of trying to make a real positive, a negative.)

he put the dog on the roof instead of the luggage like normal people would. When the dog was so terrified it had runny diarrhea, instead of fixing the problem, by hosing the dog and roof off and drying the dog off and bringing it into the car with the rest of the family, he hosed the dog off and left the dog on the roof. So, now the dog is wet and being driven with the cold wind whipping through his wet fur. Then for some reason Mitt and family think this is a good story to tell.

Per the story, Romney, his wife and 5 kids AND THEIR LUGGAGE were loaded into the car. Certainly luggage for 7 people would take more space than the dog.

I think this story will have an impact on those who are not overtly political. I know that there were people who liked John Kerry better after hearing the rather sweet story of him saving his daughter's hamster from drowning - likely as much to save his two young daughters the pain of seeing him drown. The Romney story worked in the complete opposite direction. The strange reflection of the Boston Globe writer that hosing down the dog and car and continuing showed Romney's cool calm decision making is unlikely to be most people's reaction.

This shows a man, who really had little concern for the dog's discomfort. If he somehow did not think it would be abusive to begin with, he should have realized it when the dog got sick. His alternatives then would have been limited and very inconvenient - probably cleaning the dog well and putting him inside - no matter how crowded it was. (If too crowded, they could quickly rent a second car and split the kids and luggage.)
