The Navy Is Sending Everything It Needs For A War With Iran To The Strait Of Hormuz

Mine countermeasure ship: USS Warrior

The global signs of a coming military conflict with Iran continue to build, and today the U.S. Navy made clear its intentions by announcing it's sending four additional mine countermeasure ships to the Strait of Hormuz.

Stars and Stripes reports the Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert told the Senate Armed Services Committee that he's sending the mine ships in addition to four airborne mine countermeasure helicopters.

Iran has already warned that one of its first steps in closing the Strait of Hormuz, and choking off 40 percent of the world's oil supply, will be to mine the strait and deploy its fleet of small electronic submarines.

Greenert was recently aboard the USS John C. Stennis when it was tailed through the strait by the Iranians and came away from that ride thinking "[W]e could do better setting the theater. I wanted to be sure ... that we are ready..."

since those ships would be at sea anyways. If it is somehow more costly to have them in one place when compared to another then I am unaware of it. Until they start using munitions. Those cost money.

I honestly can't tell the saber rattling from the real threats anymore. I would hope that this isn't going to escalate but who really knows?

There are always ships in the Gulf. The rest of the claims of "saber rattling" are just bullshit.

I'll bet somewhere in the Pentagon there is an attack plan for Lichtenstein. Just in case we start thinking that they are having nuclear ambitions.

As it is every time they get their panties in a knot it just gives more fuel for those who want war to use it and fan the flames even more.
Without things like the nuclear plants (which I find it odd that some self proclaim anti nuclear people are actually supporting nuclear plants for Iran) the US wouldnt have a leg to stand on and lets face it, with the money Iran could generate by selling their oil they could easily afford the investment in alternate and cleaner sources of energy than nuke plants.

We have our media and politicians railing about those eeeeeeeeevil Iranians and their nuclear plans, and accusing anyone opposed to the saber-rattling of being unpatriotic and giving aid & comfort to the enemy;

Iran has its media and politicians railing about those eeeeeeeeevil Americans and their nuclear carriers & battle fleet, and accusing anyone opposed to the saber-rattling of being unpatriotic and giving aid & comfort to the enemy.

For both countries, it's a way of scaring and controlling their population, and justifying new laws and means of repression, always For Your Protection...

if they would just stop aiming for the nukes it would disfuse alot of the tension as the US wouldnt have as much of a reason to go after them because there wouldnt be a fear that they are trying to get a nuke.

He allowed UN inspectors everywhere in the country and was even begging the FBI to come in and look if we didn't believe the inspectors.

Only sane tactic against a bully is not to show weakness. May help? May not help? But in the end if they do take the hit, at least they took it with their britches up.

I'm more afraid of Israel attacking Iran than the US.

If they don't want Obama as president, they'll attack before the elections.
If they do want Obama as president, they'll attack after the elections.
