The Cure for Snobbery

The title of this post is, of course, a joke. If Republicans are upset about the snobbery of "everyone" going to college they needn't be. That problem is well in hand.

Instead of serving as a springboard to social mobility as it did for the first decades after World War II, college education today is reinforcing class stratification, with a huge majority of the 24 percent of Americans aged 25 to 29 currently holding a bachelor’s degree coming from families with earnings above the median income...

because the staggering amount of debt they're carrying when they graduate will prevent most of them from pursuing the American dream of buying the house and 2 cars, having the 2.3 kids and dog with hair in its eyes, and saving for retirement. They'll be working class, living paycheck to paycheck and never getting anywhere even if they're the fortunate ones for whom that 4 year degree is the entry into a managerial job.
