(8,155 posts)of turning the First Lady into a fashion model?
She's a political leader and this isn't People Magazine.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)she sets fashion trends. And she loves both, so why can't we?

(8,155 posts)As opposed to what political leaders, especially female political leaders, wear or how they put up their hair.
This is what blogs are for.

No, it shouldn't matter what our leaders look like or wear - but actually, in reality, if you look at studies on voter trends - people do take looks into account, perhaps subconsciously. Right or wrong..it's reality.

(8,155 posts)The "lighten up, Francis" crap is old and worn out. Find a new trope.

(20,043 posts)Just switch it with...the 'everything is sexist/sexism' crap is old and worn out. Find a new pot to stir.
Nothing sexist about asking which hairstyle someone likes or favorite dress etc. You could post pics of Pres. Obama with different suites and do a poll asking which style/color suites him best. If that's the case we need to close all salons and trash all mirrors. Admiring someone, even their hairstyle doesn't equal sexism. Sometimes saying someone looks nice is just saying someone looks nice.
Sexism under every bush is getting old and doesn't help the cause.

(20,043 posts)let me answer it. I don't need you to tell me what I would or wouldn't say. I don't know if you're a man or a woman, but using your spoon and pot, if you're a man I'd hang the sexism necklace around your neck. I'm a woman that is capable of answering, I don't NEED or WANT you to do it for me.
Now, to answer your question. I MOST CERTAINLY would say to Michele Obama that I think she's beautiful, intelligent, etc. AND if I happen to like her hair that day, I'd say your hair is gorgeous.
So there's your answer.
Oh, and if it's a male politician-say Bill Clinton-I would have zero problem telling him how much better he looks since he's lost weight.
edited to add....I'm done with this silliness. I will not derail this thread any further with this. I've said my peace.

(42,770 posts)just beautiful.
No..it's not been perfect - but it has just been so incredibly great that we have two people leading our country who we can respect, admire and actually like. And...for many living in big cities - especially NYC and DC, being able to sleep well since Bin Laden is gone it has been worth its weight in gold.

(83,940 posts)First Lady Michelle Obama leads a group of 400 local children on the South Lawn of the White House to help break the Guinness World Records title for the most people doing jumping jacks in a 24-hour period, Oct. 11, 2011. (Official White House Photo by Chuck Kennedy)
Yesterday, something special happened. People around the world joined together towards the same goal: to set a Guinness World Record® for the most people doing jumping jacks in a 24-hour period. The challenge was to have more than 20,000 people from around the world do jumping jacks for one minute.
Joined by National Geographic Kids Magazine, First Lady Michelle Obama had the chance to launch the effort to break the record from the South Lawn of the White House:
I get to do a lot of cool things, but this is really exciting. I never thought in my entire life that I would be here today to break a Guinness World Record. Woohoo! And Im here doing it with all of you and that makes it even more fun, because the whole country -- the world is going to see just how much fun we can have not just breaking a world record but also doing some exercise, right? Because thats one of my big things. Lets Move is about kids eating healthy and moving and staying active, so you all are ready for life and for all the challenges that youre going to face.
