Elizabeth Warren: This is just wrong

This is just wrong

By Elizabeth Warren

Millions of families are hanging on by their fingernails to their place in the middle class – and the United States Senate just voted to let them fall.

I'm ashamed that the Senate didn't extend unemployment benefits yesterday. I'm sickened that my colleagues went home last night knowing that they just cut off a little help for millions of people who have worked hard and who can't find a job.

And I'm appalled that so many Senators cannot admit the simple reality: we are still in the middle of a jobs crisis. People have been looking for work for months or even years. Many are starting to give up entirely. Young people are beginning to think that there isn't a future out there for them. Long-term unemployment isn't just about money; it's also about losing hope.

These people – our friends, our families, our neighbors – they weren't the ones who broke our economy. So many people worked hard, played by the rules, and did everything we told them to – and now struggle to find work. They need our help.

We help because we care about people, but we also help because it is good for the economy. The numbers show money put into unemployment goes right back into the economy to help stimulate more demand and more business activity. According to a new Congressional report, in just one week after unemployment benefits expired, our state economies lost $400 million. Extending unemployment makes good business sense.

There's so much we should be doing to strengthen our economy and rebuild our middle class, and yesterday we took a step backwards. Washington needs to get back to work solving problems – not making them worse – so families can get back to work.

I really don't get why the Republicans would stand in the way on this issue. I don't get it, but I'm taking stock – and like many of my colleagues who voted to help people yesterday, I'm not giving up.

Last week, Labor Secretary Thomas Perez convened a group of the long-term unemployed to share their stories with members of his department's staff. All were over 50 and once held white-collar jobs; some earned six-figure salaries. The session was heartbreaking but also inspiring -- and it made me wonder why Democrats aren't screaming louder, in sheer outrage, about this GOP exercise in gratuitous inhumanity.

could not extend UI for even three months. How can they think of leaving D.C. with so much unfinished business? Yesterday was the 15th of January and Congress only returned to D.C. after the New Year. They were back for less than two weeks and they need another break? Perhaps they should put up a sign that says,"Gone to work, be back in 10 minutes."

and it cost US $24 billion dollars! They are the most irresponsible people we've ever put into office. They are also the meanest group ever, making sure people are going to suffer through this cold season. Making sure Big Business always has whatever it wants in the way of Corporate Welfare.

Coupled with the suppression of the vote of minorities, youth and the elderly and unlimited contributions by the oligarchs has virtually guaranteed the election results. If those tactics don't work they can rely on rigging the results.

I really wonder just what it will take to return the government back to principle of its being a government of the people, by the people and for the people. I wonder if massive peaceful demonstrations would have any effect other than getting some head bashed and arrests for breaking some ordinance contrived by the ruling oligarchs. As I near the end of the trail, I can't help to wonder just what kind of future we have left to our children and grandchildren.

I am totally baffled by President Obama's support for the TPP trade bill that the economist assure us will result in massive outsourcing of jobs. I posted concerning this bill and its corollary for the Atlantic region and was surprised that it didn't generate more discussion. Firstly it was not written by congressional representatives, but by 600 national and international company representatives. It totally boggles the mind that our representatives can only read the bill, are not allowed to have any staff with them, can not make notes, and can not discuss the contents with anyone since is has been classified. And now their supporters in congress are attempting to push it through congress on fast tracks. I fear that they will succeed because the oligarchs have threatened to withhold any financial support if any representative opposes it.

I have written to both of my senators and my representative encouraging them to vote against it, but so far have not received and reply.

24. Gerrymandering by Republicans makes some districts MORE progressive that NEED primarying!

When Republicans gerrymander, they try to get more seats in many cases by pushing all of the Democratic voters in to one district, making those districts MORE progressive. Those districts should use that opportunity to throw out any DINO corporatists they might currently have and get more progressive reps elected there who we need to build a bigger progressive caucus in the House.

Hopefully in the other districts were they try to gerrymander to narrowly get a Republican elected in a more Democratic area, we can get enough people disaffected with the Republicans to take back those seats, and perhaps after get an even more progressive majority, even if it might be with a slimmer margin than we had before.

Do things like remind voters how farm subsidies that are the core of what the Republicans try to push through without food stamps are at the core of creating conditions for more illegal immigration when farmers south of the border are put out of business as a result of "dumping" corn products below price at taxpayer expense.

just don't like anyone to get a "free handout" (in their words) of any sort, at the expense of taxpayers. And odds are the assholes that voted against this, never had to use any sort of entitlement. Well good for them. I'm so proud of them (sarcasm).

Not having compassion for the less fortunate is the real story here. Not doing anything about creating jobs is the real story here. Not caring for the overall betterment of society is the real issue here. Not caring about the overall economy is the real issue here. Shutting down the government is good for you, according to the GOP. It seems quite obvious to me that the GOP is NOT for YOU!!!

Vote these bastards out of office!!!!

What will it take? Our elections are rigged. Our 'news' is propaganda. We kill people in other countries with impunity. We are killing each other at an ever increasing rate. And some here think the rape culture on DU is the worlds worst problem.

Democratic or Republican and Mainstream media

Elizabeth Warren illustrates to all Americans what is exhibited as politics today. It is now with hubris so filled with incontinence no moderation here, in complex political fraud messaged daily by Republican sophist artistry showing no regret to the unemployed.

Especially Limbaugh and his crowd make me nauseated with a severe disgusting feeling. Limbaugh is a political Chameleon always shaping himself large and colored enough to hide Chris Christie while playing a political Santa Claus always giving gifts of more fun than a person could have, that is rhetoric about persons that love to hate.

Mainstream media supporting twisting translations in convoluted speeches interviews or analysis were money is expressed as the same as free speech turns the extreme and excessive style to wonkiness. Cable media with no dignity after these messages from commercials news Journalist tease you for the real story. Stay tuned. Immutably without intention to change do not tell the real truth. That commercial money is political blood money. My cable and satellite was disconnected and now I use antenna television, and rent from a video store. Plus never ever go into a BP gas station.

Especially now in the grips of the media and the corporate one percent America has been an “at will“, employment society for its duration. Meaning business can hire and fire at will. Even though the legislative process is usually the master plan of any job in the system, all America knows difficulties persist by implementation.

Worse sometimes bad legislation results in an immediate business, regrouping, perhaps, or better most likely, legislation written behind closed doors. With that said I could understand that at will principle is needed.

But, alarmingly these political chameleons avoid responsibility to report fraud or bad practices is not only irresponsible but criminal in that most intrinsic value of not continuing unemployment benefits. This is what has been happening in favor of the one percent and they know it. There is a sharp clear shot across the cultural manifold through the mainframe structure of the middle class to create a tyranny. Economic slavery in industry and education is the current model.

For those that would be interested in viewing a look inside about the one percent how they live by Jamie Johnson of the Johnson and Johnson Pharmaceuticals wealth, I wonder if that's part of the Bush era, here is a link below the only one warning is, is this really true?

Old man Buffet turns out to be very retribution able towards his daughter. I think it was his daughter. But very charitable giving away his fortune, I could put it use very well to give back to society especially the poor, which from my view seems difficult to perceive of minds like him or Gates need to find someone to spend their money. That baffles me. My life has always been a pay check to pay check life now at sixty seven going to retire in poverty after a long life working in the system. I know what being without is.

The link below is about an hour, I hope it works, so get some coffee some donuts for the trip, it is mental and I have to give kudos to Jamie Johnson.
