but expect that will be into the second term...what concerns me more is that the fact of such "in your face tactics".. that the fix is already in with voting machine tampering, votor suppression tactics, and unlimited financing..

one would have to be awfully confident, or awfully stupid, to try these tactics.. and folks like the koch brothers, and Karl Rove, are not that stupid..

The more I see them do this insane stuff, the more I believe they think the cards are stacked and they are unbeatable.

They have done so much so far to throw it - and they're not through. Citizens United is awful and it is only the tip of the iceberg as far as money Koch-etc has invested and is prepared to spend: media, journalists, think tanks, ALEC,judges. (I trust the Supreme Court as far as I can throw them now.) If the voter suppression stands with the new voting laws, there will be substantial votes lost. Every Republican legislature/governor has gerrymandered redistricting to new heights. The machine and vote tampering will be rampant and with the increased Republican control at the state level there will be less oversight and more heads turned and hands-on cheating. I've also heard there are deviations they can make in casting their electoral votes that would cancel out Obama votes.

They will do anything to win. EXPECT CHEATING AT NEW HEIGHTS.

Oldhippydude is VERY right that the folks like the Koch brothers and Karl Rove are not stupid - they just create smarter ways to cheat.

I think people give them too much credit sometimes in terms of "thinking" things out.

They are mean, they are relentless and they take no prisoners.

They just recycle the same things that have worked in the past until they bully the media into getting behind them on something.

That is what they do.

National security - BO has been so darn good on it, they have nothing to get traction on.
Economy - it isn't great, but hard to sell how they would have done better given people still realize they are big part of the reason it tanked in the first place.
Debt - with people more concerned about the economy, hard to beat the drum on the debt, and again, the memory of the fact that they own most of it is still there.
Guns - Ds have learned to not even screw with it, and again, the bizarre "BO did nothing in his first term so he can turn around and take them in a second term thing barely plays with even their base.

That leaves - the social issues.

The other thing is, they juts can't help themselves once they get into power. I had a discussion with a good R friend of mine right after the 2010 elections, and I said the House would do stupid crape - I thought they would try to impeach BO, and they have managed to not get into that, YET (they keep the house after, hopefully, BO wins this November and that WILL change). But, they can't help themselves from overreaching when they have power.

Maybe they're solidifying their knuckle dragging base but they'd have voted the line anyway.Rush told them to;that's all they need to know.

How many young professional women who reflexively vote the GOP ticket will be switching sides come the 2012 election? That goes for working class women as well. And their husbands, fathers, sons, brothers and male friends and lovers.

The Republicans have always been assholes but they've been assholes with a plan and the ability to put up a unified front. This is a total clusterfuck.

Here's to the destruction of the Republican Party.

the tea baggers didn't hijack the democtratic party, they are nuts. Up until now i had a hard time trying to distinguish a democrat from a republican, but these past couple of years has made it so much easier. Unfortunately i still won't waste my efforts voting this time around, Obama didn't do anything he promised and the country has slipped dramatically in the wrong direction. I would rather take a warm bath on election night and remember the days when we were fighting to keep ketchup from being declared a member of the fruit and vegetable group.

Sun Mar 18, 2012, 04:25 AM

wasting your vote.

By not voting for the alternative to the radically RW GOP, you enable the radical RW to prevail and thus reduce the chances of any moderation whatsoever. You may be disillusioned with Dems, but they still haven't fallen off the cliff. Not yet.

The GOP HAS fallen off the cliff and cares so little about the country that it will pull all of us with them into the abyss and not care a bit. We are in this mess in part because of our FUBAR two-party system but mostly because too many people in 2000 "saw no difference" between Gore and Bush. In 2004, too many of the same people still couldn't bring themselves to vote for an able, competent - and proven liberal - Kerry against a monstrously incompetent and warmongering Bush. Of course, both elections also had tons of the dirty tricks, deliberate distortions and outright intimidation that are standard GOP tactics. But there were still too many people who sat things out, thus enabling the ultimate success of those abominable tactics.

Not voting in the 2010 elections - at all levels - is why there are now so many crazy GOP-dominated state legislatures and wingnut GOP governors in lockstep with the Koch brothers, KKKarl Rove and their ilk.

As a US citizen who has footprints both in the US and abroad - where I actually learn more about my own country and how it is perceived than when I am in the US - I really do not believe that the US can survive as a nation under another GOP Presidency, at least not under any candidate that today's literally insane GOP would support.

IMO and I am very sorry to say this, in today's political climate in the US, there is literally no difference between a) not voting or b) voting GOP.

Please think very carefully about how you will use the power that you have. I have always felt that using my right to vote in an election has earned me the right to complain, even when the candidate that I supported disappoints me, as inevitably happens.

If I don't use my right to vote, I am simply a fence-sitter who bitches.
